He further enlightened me that in all BMW cars, the cigarette lighter socket is NOT meant for charging phones or GPS... its meant for only for cigarette which incidentally for Singapore-bound cars, the lighter has been replaced with a dummy as our Government discourages smoking! :'( Therefore they are absolving themselves of an essentially poor design where once you pull out the device...the socket disengages itself..!

How is it possible for a BMW to NOT come with ability to charge gadgets???

lmk - With malsingmaps, when you select 'Search Address', the screen shows the button 'Select County', and when you click on the 'Select County' button, the message 'County not found' appears. Apparently some address structure settings are incorrect in malsingmaps. So the folks at malsingmaps meant that Nuvi will not even allow you to go beyond the 'Select County' function. Instead I search the building name (e.g. 'Chartered Semiconductor') or location name (e.g. 'Paris Ris Park' or 'The Cathay'). The updates to malsingmaps are amazingly frequent.
