I did that for my HID fog lamps. Working perfectly so far.
my OBC reads errors, seat belts, lights, DTC lights all blinking.... and when i remove the cap. everything's normal.

the stored charge in the capacitor maybe be higher than the obc voltage durig the discharge cycle. the chip can be sensitive to spikes.

100 microF. 15V
parallel with positive end to the positive wire.
one more thing, i used to connect my reverse sensor for my reverse cam using the reverse light. It caused some flickering on the screen. i put a capacitor across the bulb in parallel it cures the flickering problem but it blew the bulb after about 2 weeks. therefore i resort to using a relay instead.

Were you using a LED bulb? The cap should be wired parallel with the LED & its series resistor, not just the LED. Otherwise, it may blow it. If you are using a filament bulb, I cannot figure out how the small charge stored in a 100μF can blow a filament bulb.
