Garmin has 2 version of maps, 1, singapore and JB only. 2, Singapore and Malaysia map.
....
Malsingmaps is a different story all together. This is the map that is created by GPS enthusiasts in singapore and malaysia. they update the map frequently and share info to everyone who needs it....
....
Malsingmaps is very updated, like queensway flyover, or underpass, 3 days after the opening, the map is updated. My Mapking has to wait for 3 months!
Garmin updates, i am not sure how long is one update.
I feel that the value of the GPS lies in its quality of maps.
BTW, I managed to get Garmin's Que running on my Pocket PC using Malsingmaps, thanks!

Hi, sorry for sounding confused.... Garmin uses the malsingmaps maps right? and it also has it own "off the shelf" map? So... I should get Garmin C320 cos the maps are free and more updated?

I went to Pin Liang this morning to see its VDO and Vit@s GPS.

The former took 20mins and couldnt get more than 2 satelite locks and the shop said I need to buy my own maps AFTER buying the VDO... cos it doesn't come with maps??? I said "sure...let me think abt it"... I must be missing something... why would anyone wanna buy this? :'(

The demo for the Vit@s was a non-starter. They found it in a backpack... with the 7" TFT wrapped in an old NTUC Fairprice plastic bag (the bag was inside out)! They said the demo means to LOOK at the screen... no trial... so I gave up.

I think if the Garmin doesn't come thru by tmr... I am gonna head down to Sin Ming to get the TiBo...

Guys,

just called Perfect Watch... they say they have the Garmin Nuvi 300 in stock now... selling at $1512 incl GST. The C320 is now at $999 incl GST.

They claimed that the Nuvi 360 is not meant for Singapore.... the package comes with the SG and JP maps...

Is this the Nuvi 300 the must awaited Nuvi? Or is this the earlier version? Comments?

nuvi 300 is the european equivalent to US nuvi 350
Nuvi 310 is the equiv. to Nuvi 360 in USA

the main difference is the bluetooth built in Nuvi 310 and 360

Both models are firmware upgradeable and provide "text to speech""

i.e. turn right 100m ahead into Orchard road.

and not

"turn right 100m ahead at the junction.""

hmmm....cannot claim this la...if so, that means Garmin makes GPS only for a certain territory. And an american traveller cannot use his Nuvi 360 in singapore at all. then why is Garmin selling Mal Sin maps for Nuvi 360?????

Hi 33,

That's good news from many who haven't bought their GPS. Hope you can check out more and share with us.
