I guess, then, we still should have slavery and women should be denied suffrage?
Really Calvin? Do you really think the genius Founding Fathers believed in such nonsense? The founders left in place a means to correct such wrongs via constitutional amendment. If the administration wants universal gov't run healthcare, I suggest they go about it constitutionally.

Please highlight the relevant parts of then definition:

The word derives from Latin tyrannus, meaning "illegitimate ruler", and from a non-Indo-European loan word in Greek, τύραννος tyrannos, meaning "sovereign, master", although the latter was not pejorative and applicable to both good and bad leaders alike.

In modern usage, the word "tyrant" carries connotations of a harsh and cruel ruler who places his or her own interests or the interests of a small oligarchy over the best interests of the general population, which the tyrant governs or controls. Many individual rulers or government officials are accused of tyranny, with the label almost always a matter of controversy.

OR

Main Entry: tyr?an?ny
Pronunciation: \ˈtir-ə-nē\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural tyr?an?nies
Etymology: Middle English tyrannie, from Middle French, from Medieval Latin tyrannia, from Latin tyrannus tyrant
Date: 14th century
1 : oppressive power <every form of tyranny over the mind of man ? Thomas Jefferson>; especially : oppressive power exerted by government <the tyranny of a police state>
2 a : a government in which absolute power is vested in a single ruler; especially : one characteristic of an ancient Greek city-state b : the office, authority, and administration of a tyrant
3 : a rigorous condition imposed by some outside agency or force <living under the tyranny of the clock ? Dixon Wecter>
4 : a tyrannical act <workers who had suffered tyrannies>

No, John, I do not. However, to suggest that principles do not change over time simply isn't the case. We all are the product of our times to some extent. I wasn't commenting on the channels of implemetation.

+1 most of the founding fathers were slave owners (including Jefferson and Washington) so, yes, views change as time goes on.

Perhaps through the evolution of our society, theft and oppression will become principled behavior. Ahhh yes, for gov't it already has....

Well, let's hope not. There is a pretty big difference between principled and accepted. I agree, governmental theft and oppression has existed in what is now the United States since the beginning when our forefathers stole the land we all live on and oppressed the Native Americans. We say, "well, they had to do what they did at the time to establish our nation," which is true. This type of behavior certainly would not be tolerated today.

PS: Here's a funny pic I found:

I just don't think she cares.

If that's true then you are right: Private industry DOES do a much better job of these that the Federal Gov't - correct.

I am not taking sides on this issue mainly because I feel that the status quo will prevail (as it always does), however, if anybody needs one example of a well-run government program that coexists with health care providers they need to look no further than Medicare. Try to take away or tweak Medicare from older folks and see what would happen to your political career. I still maintain that I am not happy with the USA being ranked number 37 in the world on the subject of health care. For crissake, France and Italy were rated number 1 and 2 respectively. Chile, Colombia, and Canada came ahead of us. No way sir, this is not acceptable and we need to do something about it.....

Medicare is nearly bankrupt. Social security is likewise nearly bankrupt. Physicians accept medicare only because their income can be "propped up" by payments from patients with private insurance. Physicians could not afford to run their offices and pay their office staff and malpractice insurance premiums if they had to rely solely on payments from medicare and medicaid. This is why physicians limit the numbers of patients with medicare and medicaid in their practices. Physicians actually lose money on medicaid office visits where I live.
