So in other words they would go ahead and take care of themselves for once and take care of everything they can't take care of because of lack of insurance or the fact that their current insurance won't cover anything they really need? I'm ok with that
They would try and get themselves taken care of, but who's to say they will or when it would happen or at what level of care. Under the current system if one had the correct med ins plan one would be able to get all their conditions checked out. Granted it will cost more, so luxuries such as houses and BMW's perhaps would be put on hold for a bit longer (no pun intended there PJ )

On a side note, weren't you in the military...why are you not seeking treatment at the VA for your knees?

Ah, so YOU are the vulture, the sadist, the slimeball I mentioned earlier j/k
In the truest definition, an insurance broker is an advocate of the client - they are supposed to do what's best for their clients...aside from the whole Marsh debacle. An insurance agent is a representative of the insurance company...so by that definition, the agents are your "slimeball, etc..."

Not to threadjack here, but on the topic of insurance companies, I am a former insurance broker. And being a former insurance broker, I can relate to both of your comments on insurance companies (and their reluctance to pay claims). My former clients were the large oil drillers in Alaska and Texas, and I had insured them with AIG....do you know how hard it is to get AIG to ever pay any claims?????? It's ridiculous!!!!!! That being said, what "bakes my noodle" now is that they were the recipients of federal bailouts!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just nauseating...

we deal with AIG for some work comp claims...definitely one of the tougher ones to get appropriate reimbursement from...

Well the knees are not a service related injury so no real help there I don't think.
I agree the correct insurance plan COULD get everything looked at and that is what we need - force insurance companies to not drop coverage whenever you develop any even mildly serious condition, force them to cover pre-existing conditions, and force them to cover end-of-life for those that want/need it, allow true nationwide competition in pricing (as DRANGED mentioned) also legislate REASONABLE maximums for malpractice suits. If all that could be done I would be much more in favor of keeping things the way they are - until then, we need an alternative.

In this insurance industry, they were routinely called, "...a necessary evil..."
