I doubt there will be the ridiculous "run" on healthcare that you foresee. Remember it would still involve time off work and a lot of workers don;t get paid if they don't work - McD's doesn't offer "sick days".
How, exactly, are insurance companies "forced" to cover things? Have you SEEN the movie "Sicko"? Case after case of valid claims denied by insurers because they cost too much - result? Dead people.
Uninsured people don't go to the hospital for a cold as you say. It would cost too much so there goes that argument.

BTW, points 1, 2, and 3 I can completely agree with.

There will be a run on health care. When you offer something for free, or at a subsidized price, it increases demand. This is a fact and is not disputable.

I have seen many fantasy movies. Michael Moore's movies are not documentaries, nor are they based in fact.

BTW, here is a quote from Michael Moore in the current issue of Rolling Stone.

"If a true public option is enacted -- and Obama knows this -- it will eventually bring about a single payer system, because the profit-making insurance companies won't be able to compete with a government run plan and make the profits they want to make ... I probably shouldn't be saying this, but I'm counting on the fact that Republicans won't be reading this Rolling Stone."

Free/Subsidized Health Care via the Government => Less Private Ins Company Customers and Income => Less reimbursement to medical providers=>
Less options for healthcare due to private clinics and Ins companies folding =>

Only one Insurance option: The Government

And the downside is? Health insurance companies are festering puss wounds of society. Run by and employing exclusively vultures and the most grotesque and sadist among us.

Funny herpes and HIV are free and i'm in no rush to get them. Even cancer is free and amazingly I have so far been able to resist the temptation. Interesting

i'll bite. insurance companies are awful, but the prospect of government healthcare is worse. i think the healthcare system in place now needs more checks and balances rather then a complete overhaul.

now i said my piece.

More inability to refute an opposing argument. FAIL.

How so? In your example if you list something for free (or low cost) there will be a run on it and I deny that is the case all the time. Want a better example?
When I was in high school a Ford dealer tried a new tactic, if you bought a Ford that month you got a brand new Yugo free. Sales dropped 30% for that time period. Go figure, perfect example of something for nothing and there wasn't the "run" you predict.

The whole idea that there will be a run on healthcare because it's free or low cost is stupid. Anyone out there anxious to go to the hospital? The doctor? The dentist? Seriously, what kind of moron is eager to need medical attention?
