From n54tech link. Dyno chart is there.
Hey guys,
Met up with a customer, Greg, to do some dyno testing on his JB3 only 335i steptronic sedan.
We did 2 runs without much cool down on 91 octane just to get a baseline, the best of which was 341/356. About what we expect for an otherwise stock auto JB3 on 91 octane.
Next we installed an AFE intake (I think dry filters? Will post a pic of it), and did two more runs, with somewhat disappointing results. The best of the two was 337/351. IMHO statistically the same as the stock airbox runs (I always figure a margin of error of 5hp/5tq between runs). Hood was open with a pretty strong fan, so I'm not quite sure what the deal is. The graph looks relatively smooth indicating it was adapted.
Anyway we were both a little disappointed with the intake so to get moral back up we poured in 2 gallons of 100 octane, bringing him up to ~94 and did 3 more runs. Best of which was 356/366.
Finally I decided to do two runs with the hood closed, which is not exactly fair as the fan used was blowing at maybe 25-30mph. And as expected power dropped way off 10+hp. Can post a graph of that later if anyone cares.

K, Well got my Dyno appointment 2morrow! Gonna see how my car preforms. Im still thinking that I will see an INCREASE in hp with the AFE kit vs the stock box and I WILL test open hood vs closed. Now before I get banned I would like to explain. The temperature in the shade is on average 10 to 5c in Ottawa,Canada. I check last night. Now this is a big difference in temp from lets say MIA. Or anywhere in that regin of the states. What do you guys think? "Place yo bets"

Oh I have. My sales guy, one of the head guys, and the R&D specialist all came out to greet me. This was on Monday and they were pissed I took off all their products and that I didn't give them a chance to respond. I sent them emails and voicemails with no calls so I drove up there (15 - 20 miles). Pretty much they were saying that RPI is another competitor and they have seen this before. He said that the dyno results will always vary, but that they GUARANTEE the products make power. ANYWAYS...the head guy of AFE Nick said that the BEST way is to get RPI's ///M5 and AFE's ///M5 and have a run....GUARANTEED that the AFE will beat it against the stock RPI with scoops/BMC filter. I have tried to set up the race and NOTHING from them.
AFE WHERE ARE YOU!?
AFE WHERE ARE YOU!?
So what would the Purchaser's do then. Do we need to wait till the Test is completed before we get the torches and pitch forks , and tar and feathers? There have been enough questions here and on e90post.com on the N54s that I would really like to get some info on a return....
Yeah for manufactures Guarantees!

Hey, Just got back from the dyno testing facility. I never even had a chance. They started off by trying to get a reading. Was told to rev up to 1500RPM while he tried connecting something in the engine, but still was unable to get a reading. This is the only dyno maching within 4h of my house. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
