Ok I went back a few posts...and found what I was looking for so maybe this can help some of you. I think this was mod was intended for LCI vehicles w/paddle shifters but here is what I found out....

Look on pages 3 and 4 and you will see....
https://5series.net/forums/diy-do-yo...-110502/page4/

In addition to this most cars will need to modify their VO with $2TB and flash their transmission to ZB number 7601458, re-encode the car and you should get the full effect of the mode as was intended. I don't know about pre-LCI.

"I re-flashed GKE as terraphantm described and it worked perfectly.

Now when I press the sport button, it actually does something other than just display "sport" on the dash. Now I can tell the transmission is in "sport" mode because it downshifts like it does when the lever is over to the left in sport mode. I have not tested for higher shift points, or anything like that. When the sport button is pressed AND I have the lever to the left my gear display now shows S1, S2, S3, etc"

However, as discussed before. There is no real noticeable difference. Sure, "sport" shows on KOMBI but is there really any difference between being in D/S mode vs. being in D with the sport button pressed? Someone can surely test it out I'm sure. If you have the tools setup, I'll even walk you through the flashing process and coding. Should take me 10 min tops. Unless you want me to code other options for you. I'm willing to do it if you are that interested to test.

As I have said before, I already have this factory on my Z4 Sport NON-SMG (GM5 390R I believe)

BMW TIS - E85 - SMG SPORT button for Dynamic Driving Control FDC Installation location <br/> Construction <br/> How it works

Yes it's only a 3.0 but it's putting out about 275hp now. Before some work it was doing about 250hp. or so. See pic. If you have ever drove an Infiniti G35 It's pretty similar in pull actually. The SPORT button changes the tune and you can definitely notice it in the shifting. It's good enough for me and good enough for my garage queen. I see no need to do to the 5er that has the same engine. Different transmission of course it has the GM5. It also has no S2TB option only the S205. Here is the VO for that car.

Good info Actung.

Anyone know the VO for pre-lci. The previous entry i made was for post LCI. I wonder if there is SAT programming for the earlier transmission. I know the mechatronic unit is slightly different.

I still haven't seen where anyone got the OEM pins & socket for each end. This is if you are going for a stock look obviously.

If I am able to afford the parts for this, I'll be sure to do a detailed step-by-step with tips and tricks.

My ghetto button is sort of sticking out from under my console, I'd like to get rid of it!

Does anyone know if its possible to just modify the shifting plate (cutting out the hole for it) instead of buying the $140 dollar shift plate?

The button itself is not too much of a problem, I mean $75 isn't that bad for a button... but $140 for a piece of plastic...

I don't see why not. anything can be cut with precision. I would cut it smaller and then sand it down to perfection. But no way would I pay $75 for plastic button. LOL. I have a cheaper option

I have a few sport buttons for E85 stored away. You can find them separate from dealer.

RealOEM.com * BMW E85 Z4 3.0i VARIOUS SWITCHES

For vehicles with Driving dynamic control
S224A=Yes 01 Switch sport 1 10/2004 61316915010 $73.75

The aluminum trim alone will run about $20 dollars or so......and you can't find that separate.

BMW Z4 Chrome Style Sport Button Surround | eBay

I will sell it to you for $55 shipped. My wholesale cost was $59. Long story why i have these. lol. heres a small photo. I forgot i stored them away until this post. So thank you OP. I only have two i think. The third I have in use.

I'm using the exact same switch.
...I ordered one last week, just need to wire it up. (I think it's about as close to an OEM look as you can get without buying a new gear shift trim)

Anyone got a picture of the connector in an LCI car? I stripped the center console, and there's no such connector there (ashtray is where pre-lci models seem to have the connector). Or do I also have to remove the CD/DVD unit to find it behind that?

Thanks in advance,
J

Sure, see very first post photos. Looks to me as if behind glovebox
