Aftermarket Wheels and suspensions for Xi

You need to do some research on your car so you don't choose the wrong sizes regardless of what people here say. I don't know where you came up with 235/40x18 initially for a front tire but that would be too small, much too small in overall tire diameter. The 245/40x18 is the stock/factory 18" size and it is actually considerably smaller than what will fit in terms of diameter.
You can also choose a slightly taller tire, if appropriate for your purposes, as I did by using a 245/45x18 on the factory 18"x8" wheels. Even 255/45x18 would fit but they are a little too wide for the 8" rim and would have better dynamics on at least an 8.5" or 9" rim. The shape of the tire on the rim matters a lot for handling and too wide is very bad, whereas slightly too narrow, "stretched" as it's often called, will still handle well but not protect the rim lip.
There are a number of wheels in the above link I provided. There are many in the e90 section that have high 30's ET which ought to fit great.

Alright, I read most of the things regarding fitment of wheels on an xi. From what I understand it is possible to go with around a 35et depending on the wheel. I want to go with 20"s because I think they look badass. What I am looking for is some help confirming that these wheels would fit with 35et offset or if I would be better off with a 19" with a slightly higher offset.

You also have to account for the width of the rim. Where people have used ET35, have not been on super wide rims because that also adds to how far out the rim ends up when mounted.
