Sorry that everything I wrote was interpretated as if it was B/S. That was not my intention.

My Ride: e39 525i Touring, will order e61 as soon as I can decide on engine and options...
Always a bit sad when years of efforts in product development pass unnoticed by the end customer...maybe a smart move by BMW to package the advanced system in a better looking interface, the customer buys it for the looks and gets a better feature level "for free" ;-)
But, climate remains one of the most difficult areas to balance in development...US customers prefer a more noticable "draught" of cold air in summer, european customers a draught free ventilation. Some OEM:s (not sure about BMW) actually program the fan for higher average speed for the US market.

As a professional in that subject it is inevitable that you would notice it more than most people. No offence intended.

My Ride: 535D Sport Auto
I had std air con on my 530d and now have the advanced system which I indirectly paid extra for as its std on the 535d. IMHO the std system looks cheap and should not be associated with this class of car, however, it works fine and is as BMW intended very quick and simple to use. My current system looks pretty but its still naff compared to systems with LED readouts like in my old E39 and wifes X5. To sum up I don't think its worth the extra money. Its like buying an all singing - all dancing electrical appliance for the home and only using the one setting as the majority of us do.
