Dealer called me back today about my query on the lack of a speed warning on my car. He says after speaking to BMW there appears to be two different versions of the OBC dependant on whether you have the advanced air con fitted.

So basically for uk spec cars without advanced air con they put a cheaper OBC in which looses some other features.

So anyone with advanced air con but no Nav able to confirm this ?

He also said they will change the screen for my stuck on pixel which is good news

I find the relationship between some of the options in this car extraordinary. Who would guess that the the type of a/c you order would affect the speed limiter options.

Having said that you have to have advanced a/c to have Prof Nav. Weird.

Skidster, only thing your missing so far is the speed warning, it might be better for us if we don't know what else were missing as there's little can be done now.

The service person I was talking to said it was funny that I mentioned it as 2 other people raised it over the weekend after I'd spoken to them.

I did some PLC work a few years a go and it strikes me as plausible that they might have cut a few functions to allow them to down size to a cheaper OBC.

Eh? I have standard air on my car, plus satnav, and there is a speed warning option which I currently have set at 100mph. Bloody thing goes off all the time ;-)

GarryF

I have the advanced a/c and no nav. I have the speed limiter and i had it also before the software upgrade.
I'll check the iDrive for the exact sequence.

Funny thing! The official brochure sais nothing about the OBC but the price list i downloded last year from bmw site (it is in german) sais that the advanced a/c option also contains an advanced OBC!!! which i have to admitt i knew about when i ordered my car.

cheers

now wait... i have busNav and standard 'auto' A/C - i do have an obc and i do have the speed warning alarm which is accessed via obc via Nav menu of idrive -- my question is what other advanced obc features are not in my vehicle?

i have the trip computer, etc, and the speed limit bong - your post made it sound like there were other features.

Sorry Skidster you maybe misunderstood what I meant, what I was saying was that by not fitting advanced air con you loose features totally unrelated to that function i.e. the speed warning. I expect since you have nav you have the advanced OBC

So summing up
Car with basic air con and no nav = basic OBC
Car with advanced air con and no nav = advanced OBC
Car with basic air con and nav = advanced OBC

Only difference spotted so far between the different OBCs is lack of a speed warning.
