I performed this retrofit the other night on my 08 535i. It was a simple change thanks to the excellent DYI guide. The shifts are not quite a quick as I expected but it's much better and I like the higher effort steering when Sport is enabled.

I have the leather trip piece and it matches other black leather pieces. I think i looks much better than the black plastic on my car especially with the leather shifter boot. I can post pictures of you'd like to see what it looks like installed.

I'd like to know how to make the after market (OEM BMW steering wheels) peddle shift work with the SAT

sorry for just getting around to taking some pictures of the leather trim ring. Hope this helps in making your decision as I'm very pleased I went with leather.

Yes it is, aswell as the same part No.s for the 6 series. My SAT shifter, trim and ECU came from a 630d.

Here is a few pics of mine with the leather trim aswell.

Its also worth noting that the original trim colour can upclip from the silver part and will fit the new SAT trim, incase you fancy a change.

Is it just me, or does it appear that the trim piece in G's pic is not the same as the trim piece in P's pic(s). For my 2008, the trim piece leather part is offset (more on one side than the other) similar to G's pic a few posts above. P's pic shows a trim piece with equal amounts of leather trim on both sides... although his must be a newer E60 given the updated iDrive controller.

Rolly, just check carefully before ordering parts... there may actually be some slight differences between model years.

Finally, a paddle-shifter update... everything is in the car and wired, but we (well, the dealer actually) is having a heck of a time getting the car to program correctly to recognize the SAT option - even with new vehicle order code(s). The new SAT shiter/box is only partially recognized at this point, and although I can use the sport button (all I can say is WOW! this mode is awesome - although gas mileage is awful in this mode), the shifter will not recognize DS mode... it just pops back to D. The car is going back in next week for another go at the programming and a second wiring check, and I will update if anything changes.

Its possibly because my car is a right hand drive car ?
