CIC Retrofit Installation LOG
#391
Oh my God we all are addicted
I will update you as soon as I can offer the Combox retrofit.
As some of you know I broke my leg a couple of weeks ago and have been stuck in bed ever since.
I hope I can finish this retrofit in the next 2-3 weeks.

Here's 2 quick shots of the interior after all was said and done, you can see my maps updating right now.
Sorry for the mediocre quality, forgot to charge the battery on my digital camera so all I had was my phone. Let me know if you want better pictures of anything, I'll be happy to grab them with the real camera later tonight.
A few things I learned from doing this install. First get your self a battery tender, very handy for doing the coding and the map upgrades, plus its a nice thing to have around. Second get a set of BMW tools. I bought mine where I got a speaker upgrade for my center channel (also worth doing IMO) and I can't tell you how much time it saved me. The kit I bought has a few tools for pulling the dash apart that save an incredible amount of time and don't risk scratching the interior. Well worth the $15 or so I paid.
And yeah, I'll probably do the combox, providing its not ridiculously expensive, and I can get committee approval from my wife I am a bit of a sucker for technology in my cars.

And I was wrong, it was $30, but still worth it.

Dkoren, Nicely done! Your car is also the first that I've seen with wood trim covering the DVD bay and Climate control area. It does lend towards a sense of "flow" on the dash. Looks great.

Thats the way the 6ers look, I am a huge fan of the look of the interior with the wood trim. The updated look with the single dvd drive really finishes it off nicely.

Patryk,
It seems if we want all functionality of the new Combox that we'll need to enable voice control on our CIC. Looks like we may have to sign up for this coding mod also. At least now we know you can get the coding keys for it.
