Have you noticed that all wipers on MB E-Class and BMW 5 series use a similar wiper. Ones which look like all "rubber" without the metal arm?

M-B S-class has them too.

I think it's actually a good design. They seem less likely to lift due to extreme air currents running over the windshield.

great background info on the use of a single wiper but do the wipers on the 5 leave a significant area on the drivers side unswept??

IT is the sound of friction. Why so much friction for E60? My E39 had same problem. But not the MB.

I asked about the wipers before I got my car and the salesman couldn't give me an answer at all. Its just the way they are built was the quick answer.

My mom had a old E-class and the wipers could never move fast enough to dry the windshield. It would weep back and forth very quickly but not quick enough.

I was wondering if it was just me, but here in florida we get hard rains. During very bad rain storms I find the e60 wipers also to slow to get the rain away. I am usually stuck with a blur all over the windshield.
