I just read my new owners manual and according to the repair section you have to get an approwal of the repair from BMW to get continued warranty coverage from them. The E60 is also very special to repair becouse it's partly made from alu so it's adviced to bring it to a BMW certified body shop.

It might be different in US, but I would be suprised that it shuld be less regulated in the land where you bring pepole to court for to hot coffe.

I believe only the front end of the car is made of Aluminum. and reguards to the Warranty coverage... if he repairs it at a good body shop BMW prob wont even see the repair and wont even question it and just fix anything under warranty if needed.

In the US... theres plenty of shops that will do things to hide stuff... tax evasion etc etc. So if they repair your car and you pay them cash they dont have to report it and its all money in the pocket. If you pay them they wont report it to the DMV. money talks with A LOT of hokey places.

As for insurace... someone mentioned insurance to the initial poster. I've heard of a lot of stories about those that are from across the pacific ocean that can actually afford TONS and TONS of stuff... would goto Vegas and plop down $100K on one hand of poker and drives Mercedes S500s but will only buy liability insurance. Believe that??? Its true. I dont know what these people are thinking but thats how the world spins. So just listening to this story just doesnt make sense... if his parents dont want to bother with insurance it very much sounds like they're loaded and dont want to deal with insurance and will just pay and deal with it themselves.

My thoughts?

Since you got frame damage, fix the car asap, sell it, buy a hummer, peace out.

yea thats what ive been wanting to do anyways....
well, front fenders are good to go but its just 1 driver side door (whole replacement i guess, windows are broken, panels are crumbled up and the window's shattered, but no electrical damage...mirrors are fine also) and one rear door (crumbled up a bit...its misaligned due to do the damage...no actual frame misalignment though)
so how much am i looking at? o_O 1000~3000? more?

This is from my own experience but I think it depends on the amount of damage to your car. CARFAX is what you need to worry about and I think body shops are supposed to report these things. I had my front bumper (light damage) replaced on my last car when I hit a snow bank and when I sold it, I provided a clean CARFAX to the buyer so I assume it may depend on the level of damage, or maybe it is reported only if you make an insurance claim (I did not make a claim).

With a negative CARFAX, a lot of private buyers won't want to buy it, or may want a discount off the asking price.

This is my experience - can anyone add to this?

I can add to this.

CarFax is horseshit. They can't find out a thing about your car. I had a Lexus which was wrecked 3 times, and stolen. Just for kicks, I ordered a CarFax report before I sold the car.... just to see what would show up.

The car came up clean. Not a single blemish on the CarFax report.

This is proof positive that CarFax is worthless. The car was stolen, and police chased the thief at high-speeds through downtown Atlanta, before the guy wrecked the car into a parking garage. None of these facts were known to CarFax.

today at towncenter, my 530i suffered a horrible accident
as i step on the gas after braking at the stop sign, a x5 comes out of nowhere and crashes into my driver's side door...
theres a little frame damage and window shattered into pieces (my windows were down) and rear door panel's a little crumpled up also...
i did not have my license nor my insurance card at the time so our deal was just to take care of our own businesses...
how much would new doors cost? O_O

ps. i'll post some pics later...not in the mood to look at the car right now
Something wrong here....strange, very strange.

Funny too that the side-airbags didn't go off.

This thread reeks of bullshit. Not to mention the sex change of the X5 driver. :-)

haha i never mentioned the sex of the other driver so it might've occurred to everyone to assume that the other driver was male...well she was a female with a baby in the back o_O
