in a parking lot -- police wont write a citation.
its not a public roadway but a private one.

if you really want to get the best docs for later -- camera phone the scene.

otherwise -- its sound like you will have your parents fit the bill.

lucky/unlucky you.

good luck getting it put back together with a body shop.

if you are leasing -- dont ask your dealer for a body shop referral -- they typically document immediately that the car was damaged for later inspection.

good luck again

This is from my own experience but I think it depends on the amount of damage to your car. CARFAX is what you need to worry about and I think body shops are supposed to report these things. I had my front bumper (light damage) replaced on my last car when I hit a snow bank and when I sold it, I provided a clean CARFAX to the buyer so I assume it may depend on the level of damage, or maybe it is reported only if you make an insurance claim (I did not make a claim).

With a negative CARFAX, a lot of private buyers won't want to buy it, or may want a discount off the asking price.

This is my experience - can anyone add to this?

ethically -- you should disclose any frame damage.
as this can dramatically affect how the car drives.

Yes, I agree. I told my buyer that there was a new bumper put on (showed receipt that showed only bumper added), showed him my CARFAX to prove no other accidents, and I had a body shop inspection to show there was no damage (frame, engine etc.).

Anyone buying an expensive used car will want an inspection so if there is any damage, you can't hide it as body shop guys know what to look for. Plus, if you do not disclose structural damage, I believe it is considered fraud.

That is one great thing about leasing - if your 5-series does get t-boned, you don't have to worry about getting killed at resale time.

You dont have full coverage insurance?
I guess you can afford the fix and not bother with your insurance then it doesnt matter... to some people a couple thousand is like a few pennies so the hassle is more costly to them. *shrugs*

P.S. Not to me tho! You touch my car you're paying for it in full. I'll take you to court.

I am also utterly shocked the other driver would agree to a 50/50 fault! It sounds like you have no insurance and no driver's license (please clarify this), so they have huge leverage - if they did report you to the police, you would not be a happy camper!

Plus, the accident really is 100% your fault as you should not be on the road and given this fact, the accident would have never happened.

The only way I could see the other driver agree to this is if they were DUI and did not want the hassle. You are just lucky EBMCS3 wasn't the other driver!

well frame damage is not serious but i think that it will affect how i will sell the car after fixing all these problems..
yes, ethically i would have to disclose any frame damage but theres just little dents from the door knocking into the frame...body chasis looks normal
driver's side front door has just a huge dent but all the electrical system works fine, rear driver's side door has a dent and a little bit misaligned due to the dent...but im not sure what is broken inside the doors...i just know that all the electrical systems work fine...
how would i have to get my car fixed? via bmw body shop?(having them replace 2 doors completely) or via local body shop (having them fix the dent and the window)
thanks for the input guys...

ps. cant find my camera

I just read my new owners manual and according to the repair section you have to get an approwal of the repair from BMW to get continued warranty coverage from them. The E60 is also very special to repair becouse it's partly made from alu so it's adviced to bring it to a BMW certified body shop.

It might be different in US, but I would be suprised that it shuld be less regulated in the land where you bring pepole to court for to hot coffe.
