MP3 CCC Upgrade and Service Advisor Help
#41
I just got my car back today...and the MP3 was a no go. It cost me $125 just to get them to try! What they said was MP3 was there for them to select under the retrofit...but it wouldn't let them save/restart? I asked what version of Progman was on my car...and he said he thinks...off the top of his head...Ver 28. My car is a 3/04 build. Any suggetsions?

What are the chances of getting mp3 capability on a build date 11/04 530i with no nav? (in-dash CD player only) Thanks in advance

Hi,
I have a March 2005 E60 with pro nav which plays MP3's. Does anyone know if the latest Idrive software has WMA support?
Thanks.

Wait a minute...I may be confusing the MP3 disc playback with the iPod/USB interface...can someone else confirm this?

The documents I posted don't address the CD-changer issue. The lack of MP3 playback on the changer is a limitation of the hardware and was, at some point in time, addressed with an updated changer.
If your car is up to date and can play MP3 discs through the in-dash slot but not the changer, then the changer is of the older type...

Rudy are you sure the changer is different from an 04 car to an 06? The reason I ask is that I have done a few CD changer retrofits and the parts guys have always told me there is only one part number for the fiber optic CD changer so it does not really matter what car it is going into unless you need a vehicle specific plug or mount of some sort, they said all the changers are the same. What do you think?

If your car plays MP3s, then it should also play WMA files. As far as I know, both formats have always been supported as long as they are free of any DRM issues...

I had MP3 and Bluetooth activated on my 03/04 with Navi. No problem works like a charm.

Hi guys,
I've been looking into this update for a few hours this evening.
My car is a July 06 build.
Does anyone know wether this Service Bulletin is applicable in the UK aswell, or will I get charged to enable the MP3 Playback?
I think I have to get the CDC enabled also, to enable iPod interface installation, but I just want to know I'm barking up the right tree before speaking to my dealership.
Thanks

I also remember that a while ago, at least one member claimed he had success playing MP3 files in the changer so there was further speculation that a newer part number was released. After many other people had no success in getting MP3 discs to play in their newer build cars, it was determined that the person claiming it worked on his car used software that converted the MP3 files to an audio CD without his understanding of the technical side of things.
So, with all that being said, I think there never was (and never will be) a "newer" CD changer that supports MP3 playback...
