Hi Guest_kiasu king
Pirelli is so so only. My E39 came with it (P6000 I think) and I was so disappointed. After awhile, decided to change to Dunlop SP9000 - the soft-compound SP9000 is good but wears out fast.
In between, tried others but for very good wet/dry grip, Michelin Pilot Sports is very good. I tried some NCTs and found the side-wall to be very weak - used less than 10K km and the side-wall bulge - distributor said it was safe to drive and I changed it fearing a burst at hi speed.
Now, my E60 came with Dunlop Sports 01 runflat - noisy like mad and the ride is hard!

each brand has its top range tyres...for eg the pirellis p zeros r completely different from the p600 etc..they r performance based...same for yokohama avs sport..its diff from the aspec n so on...the s-03s r the best performance tyres for our weather....the down side is of cos noise that sets in later. a high grip tyre will not hv the best comfort. depends on wot u want. michelin pilot sport is a good compromise....but to me somewhat hopeless in the wets... conti 2...same thing...when its wet it loses it n its comparatively more expensive.
if i hv to choose tyres it will be purely performance. thats why i go s-03, zero/rossos (on porsches) n yokohama avs sport..michelin pilot sport ...in that order.
ur opinions might differ... if u drive on track..then forget comfort.

ya the special tarmac for drainage purposes. less slippery when rains. actually the runflats r noisy. i heard them when a 525 went pass last week. but the cabin is insulated enuf. i dun think the grip is v good...i can induced wheelspin just buy turning n stepping more than i need to..the rear at 275 is still not grippy enuf.
but i wud think most bmw drivers want more speed than merc drivers...so sacrifice the comfort a bit boyz...let rip!
