What additional functions do you have? I like to DIY too.
[color=#3333FF]good to DIY. I have GPS software, both Garmin and Mapking. Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Software to display when my SMS came in and reply.
i am playing with the controls on the idrive knob. i am waiting for a prototype interface to have controls on the steering wheel. it is in the testing phase i still do not have one in hand to test.
Meantime, you may want to try the Griffin knob. Not bad for itunes.

Guys, I just called up Elecom and planning to go down this Sat to get their TiBo at special of $999+GST and free KL Map (just in case need to go there someday)...

Any comments/reviews on this? Would it look ugly stuck to the dashboard... cos I heard the $10K SATNAV which BMW has does not even have basic HDB blocks nor search by street names...?

I'm thinking of replacing this screen with a wide VGA touch screen but won't be able to access iDrive functions without the original BMW monitor. Is there a solution to this dilemma?
CIP does not have a VGA line out, therefore cannot do.
No solution yet.

yes, i did.

the device still uses the VGA input, therefore you will still need the video interface and deteriotes the resolution.
Moreover, i think garmin has the best map details.
Moreover, Malsingmaps is always updated and it is free!

Thanks for the information. It will be cool to replace the iDrive with the Griffin knob, the BMW monitor with a custom wide VGA touch screen and have the software that runs on the PC or Macmini to provide all the functions of the original car computer console.

Yes, you guys are right. I will be contacting the Managing Director Simon Rock and BMW asia.

This is just not acceptable, and giving a gift voucher and hamper is not going to cut it.

Thank you all for your input, I much appreciate it lah.

if you replace the original screen with touchscreen monitor, wouldn't it be too far to reach to touch the screen? maybe my hands are short. seems quite far to stretch leh.

That is why i use mapkng. the latest updates have HDB blocks included. At no charge.
Driving around HDB neighbourhood looking for the right block number drives me nuts...i am a lost bird as far as statellites town is concern. Too many traffic ligths, cars making right turns, student crossings, and yet still have to keep an eye looking out for the block numbers!
With the mapking software, driving in a new town is a breeze!
