Got back my car after lst servicing at 13826 km (car is 1 year 5 months old). Software upgraded to version 16.2. Noticeable differences between old (version 13.2) and latest version:

1. Engine smoother and quieter
2. Gear shifts better
3. Idrive screen comes on immediately after start up (no more the 30 sec delay)
4. Software now reads the CD correctly and does not revert to first song
5. Names of radio channels now show on the screen (e.g. Love 972, Sym92.4, etc)
6. Static on radio gone

If you guys notice any other changes, I would be glad to hear them.

[quote name='zag' date='Apr 24 2005, 10:21 PM']After driving considerably for a few days with 16.2 software... i concluded with the new software, i experience a slow kick down response/ hesitation. While i was with 12.1, when i step on the throttle without activating the kick down button, instantaneously it upshift.
With 16.2, it stays in gear and i always got caught with hopelesslow end torque. Darn!
I wonder if the system is relearning my driving style.
Anyone experiencing similar?

i updated my ride today, changed the cup holder third time...yes, thrice in year!
Anthony is unable to change both my driver side and left window power motor. but he confirmed that both has to be changed. it works intermittently when closing and the anti trap stops the window from winding up.

Contrary to some cars had hesitation after upgrading, mine was smoother when shifting from second gear to third at 2000 rpm. no hesitation which i had all along from 14 months ago until today. 4 updates so far, this is the best.
it drags longer before shifting to third at about 3000 rpm. no signs of hesitation at 2000 rpm from starting. so i have higher end torque when it shifts gear.

drove for about 100Km to day, from west coast east about three times, inlcuding jams at pasir panjang and shenton way. consumption is 11.2km/100l previously, 13km/100l

will go back later this week to change the motors.

No problem with my upshift and I wasn't referring to upshift hesitation.
My problem is when I do a down shift for eg. accelerating from 60 kph ease cruising to overtake cars, when i was on older software the moment i hit the accelerator , the engine rev up and kick down occurs instantenously. With the new software, either i don't get a down shift which means a slow pull at low end of the torque or there is kick down but after a delay.

Talked to CSA about this, agrees with him the throttle is more responsive, gear down shift has noticeable delay.

eggz, since you are still on old software can you take note what rpm do you car typically down shift when you do a quick pedal to metal without activating the button on the pedal?

i tried this morning.

i understand what you mentioned now.

yes, it takes longer to kick down and when just when u need more torque to pick up from there, u don't get pulled becos you are at the lower end torque band.

previously, shifting up from 2nd to third is at 2500rpm, but now at about slightly before 3000rpm before going to third gear. i know it may differs from the way i step on the accelarator, but it is at the same car park, same speed.

as to kick down, after getting from the down slope cruising, on the way to up slope, i step on the accel pedal, it dargged like i am driving a reluctant car....it stays at 3rd gear until about slightly above 1200~1500rpm before kicking down.

Great, now you confirmed what i was experiencing with version 16.2
This is not good at all, make me feel my car is retarded or something now.
I am still hoping the tranny will learn my driving characteristics over the next few days and see how it goes.
It is not funny at all now that when I want to accel to overtake the car in front by doing the routine of kick down first wait and counted one; two; three for torque to surge and then go for lane change. Bummer!

After ungraded s/w to 16.1 fuel consumption has gone up, doing abt 14.5/100km (520i/ City driving) . AS feel tighter and don't feel the turning radius is performing to spec. for I've been driving mths- I can feel the different. :'(? Anyone experience the same and care to comment? Your comment will be much appreciated.

Welcome robo.

Regarding the fuel consumption, the most important is when you go to the pump. Pump about the same as before?

I messed about with a hidden menu and I had to reset it. Now the on-board-computer is very optimistics. With full tank and when I reached KL some 350km later, it showed I could still go on for another 700-800km, and the average was 15km/L.

Thks for the warm welcome by u guys. I'll monitor the fuel consumption for a while more. Thks for those who commented on this issue. But nobody comment on the Active steering, leh.....I presume all has no problem I can't make it for this weekend meet-up. <_< Otherwise, wud like to park side by side and compare the AS with u guys to see the different. Hope u guys have a great time.

lmk, did you opt for Professional Radio? My ride is in PML and last checked with tech as to why mine cannot play MP3? He confirmed that only cars with Professional Radio will as also confirmed by others in the forum.

I am a little confused - did BMW make it clear from the onset that MP3 is only supported on Pro Radio?

Toto, how much is the season parking at UOB? Can a non-tenant park there? I need a season parking at Raffles Place next month, what is the price range I should expect?

And, Edlee, so who are coming? Please put their names down, I am gonna take attendance this Sunday.
