Has anyone noticed that the 545 engine seems quieter after getting V25 installed? For the past year or so, possibly after a prior Progman update for the tranny slam, I noticed a slight ticking sound that seemed to be coming from the valve train - mostly on the right side, but some on the left as well. It wasn't real loud, it just sounded like slightly noisey valve lifters. I suspect it had something to do with Valvetronic lever slop, but whenever I reported it to the dealer, they said it was normal. Now after driving around for a bit with V25, the noise seems to be gone.

Yo, correct !

It's in the v25 SIB man, N62 engines : pinging sound fixed.
Mine is quiet too...

The code in the SIB I saw was for the 550 engine, not the 545. I suspect that BMW must hide their dirty laundry to some extent and there are some problems that they discover and fix that they never publiclly acknowledge. In any case, I'm real happy with V25 so far and if it holds up I'm not ever upgrading again.

Got my car back today with V25. Much better than before, #1 improvement is search by name in nav. I still need to take the car back next week though, because I complained about a slight ticking noise when turning the steering and they said they need to replace the steering rack.?.? Oh well, I wanted to get an alignment, this way it will be free.

I just got updated to version 25 today and here are my impressions:

2005 525i - no NAV

The car shifts MUCH smoother at lower RPM's.
My fuel economy has increased slightly.
The NAME of the radio station and song title is now displayed
Bluetooth seems to sync instantly as soon as I get in the car (took 30-45 seconds before).
Service menu looks a little different (added state emissions testing) - there is none in Minnesota.

Does this mean that my car will now play mp3's?

All lights work (no eyebrow issue).

No, I mean when you turn engine off and remove the key from steering lock, usually, radio has to shut down.
On my situation, radio shuts down when I turn engine off, and immediatelly re-opens when I remove key from lock. It happened twice today
Even more worrying I was unpacking the car today and after about two minutes the radio came on. There was no way I could shut it off (even by locking the car with the remote) without going "radio ready" by putting the key in.

What if this happens while the car is parked and you come back to errrr.... a dead car?

You should never reach a 'dead' car. I've done this once and came back to a car where all electricals where shut down and the battery had only enough power for a single successful start. However I do take your point its scary to know that things turn on by themselves!

I believe the organization of the screens and drill down menues are different. Although I just got v24.xx (done by tech that was holding it in case v25 was bad) it too is a different organization then what I was used to. It took my a few tries before I found the CBS values. Start at the I menu level press down and look for car data, then service - see if that gets you to the CBS values you are looking for. Maybe someone with real v25 can walk you thru the process.

No, not the oil level screen, it was the screen that had the mileage before the brakes need to be replaced, oil replacement, brakfluid etc.

Same with mine - it seems less pingy!

MPG on a 490 mile run on Wednesday - 30.9! (super unleaded).

Got my upgrade last week and here is what I noticed:

1) I do not have (or cant' find) the screen with the info on brake and oil life, which told you how many miles before a change was needed
2) Screen to adjust heated seats is gone
3) Auto light feature much improved, lights do not come on in full day light as they did before.

Anyone else notice 1 and 2 above?

Thanks,
Frank

Edit: I do have heated seat adjust screen.
Item 3) above can be set to three different levels of light sensitivity by your dealer.

Your gallon is bigger. US drivers, do not drool, you will never see 30mpg in a 545i
