... those Style 166s I'm looking at are chrome and I think they'd look great on my Deep Sea Blue car...
..If it comes down to it, I may just keep the Style 285s and have them powder coated a darker gunmetal gray, as I'm not a fan of that lighter argent color on most bmw wheels, especially on a DSB wagon. It's like wearing fluorescent shoes, it just takes away from everything else you're wearing.
WOW! From chrome to gunmetal gray! Totally different looks, my man!

Yeah, I can't decide what direction to go.
I like chrome with the DSB color (takes me back to the remembering days of Sonic Blue Terminator Cobras with chrome wheels), but then again that darker gunmetal looks badass with DSB.
Just got the wheels and tires installed today. Couldn't be happier with the fitment and the look. the final wheel/tire weight was about 52 lbs, previously 59 lbs with the run flat and stock style 124's.
I did a ton of research on forums and it payed off. I had seen many others going with the 285/30 rear and 245/35 fronts. Although these keep almost identical to stock overall diameter, I wanted to keep the slightly more protected and slightly "comfier" larger sidewall. I went with the 275/35 rear and 245/40 fronts. I'm so happy I did, the car still looks aggressive, and I have more protection for the less-than-high-quality rims I purchased. I honestly like the look of the slightly beefier sidewall, it makes it look more powerful or something... <<<<<totally non-tangible opinion here...
I know I'll get some flack from folks who thinks the car looks 'lifted' but honestly, my stock suspension with 110k miles is probably sagging the 1/2" of height that the car "gained" from going with a 0.9" increase in overall diameter. I'm super happy with results. I also believe I will be fine with lowering the car 1" in the future. If I need to do a mild fender roll I can do that as well.
I'll post some pics in the daylight.

I'm content with the 285/30/19s in back considering they are just for summer.
Coilovers would be the answer with 19s and larger tires for adjustment tweaking.
Winter in Wisconsin will need my stock 124 sidewalls for mental comfort.
Post those pics.

You are going to need coilovers to remedy that. I could be mistaken but springs would probably cause problems.
It probably rides really nice even with older struts. Mine are fine with 90K and H&Rs
But I must say I am jealous of the speedometer correction
I wanted to update- I installed H&R springs. Only have the fronts on so far but couldnt be happier with result! no rubbing! stock springs were so worn the height is only about 1/2" shorter. looks amazing. \
Bonus pictures showing off all the front end work that led up to this:
I seem to be wrong a lot lately.
Those are 19"s right? It doesn't look much lower than the pics up top from 8/24.
Post back with pics after the rears go on.

They still need to settle for sure. Only about 100 miles on the new suspension. Another thing is I put brand new Sachs struts on. Maybe there is some slight effect from that as well. Your detailed post and pictures were key in helping me fit my new wheels and tires, so thank you for that!
I have the same with rear ET 33 with 245/35/19 & 285/30/19 on H & Rs on my sedan.
With stock height you could ramp up the sidewall easy to 40 and 35 and go wider down the road.
I realized I probably didn't answer your question correctly.
Did you mean strut clearance? The back will be okay. It will be further out by a few mm than my stock 9" wheels at 55ET

Yeah, I scoured the thread and there's so much extraneous info it's hard to discern if one certain size out back is possible. I know the fronts will be okay, likely could step up to a 245 tire there with that 35 offset and still be fine.
Geez, you have a 285 tire on a 9.5" wheel with a 55 offset and it still fits out back? That's pretty good, must be by microns on both sides. I didn't realize a 55 offset was even possible on these cars. That's why I'm wondering if I should use a 10mm spacer on the back for that large of a wheel, even with those narrow 255 tires.
BTW, I saved that site you referenced above, as it's definitely one of the better calculators I've seen online. Thanks!
