I drove many diesel powered cars (MB, Japanese etc.) and even though i'm sure the 535d it's a brilliant car (BMW will not ruin their reputation..), I just can't stand the power curve of a diesel powered engine, regardless to the noise & other things I don't like about it.

Considering that diesel price is even higher than a premium gas over here it's even more of a BIG BIG NO NO..

Besides... If one can afford a 545i or a535d or any other new BMW, gas prices shouldn't be an issue..

Yep.
And if gas prices are an issue, then it will definately not be a 535d, it will be a 530d...

Yes totally understand why you would have the opinion you have on diesel power after driving the ones you have driven. With the greatest respect the 535d is different to all other diesels because it keeps accelerating at the same rate from the initial start off until it redlines. Its the only 2 stage turbo unit currently available. I'm sure the 545i goes like the clappers but IMHO I don't believe it would leave a 535d behind in any situation. I'm not starting a mine is faster than yours argument but out of interest does anyone know what the 0 to 100mph is for the 545i?

Well, I will leave you behind! In ANY situation!

You Diesel drivers allways come with that "torque" the Diesel has, but torque is not everything! The 535d is close to a 545, but it's like a comparison between a 545 and a M3. The Emmy wins. The 545 is close to it, but the Emmy wins. The 545 wins against the 535d. The d is close, but that's it.

Iceman, what is the 0-100(mph) time for the 545i?

I really want to find myself next to a 545i on a 1/4 mile drag strip - not because I think it's a foregone conclusion - I think it would be a REALLY interesting test :-)

Iceman, maybe you need to see this again <_<

Now, imagine (and I think it's an entirely fair comparison given the price differential between 535d and 545i) how these times will look for a remapped 535d...

As I said, Torque is NOT everything!
The Diesel will get beaten by the 545.

Oh, you are one of those Diesel freaks who want to see it written and then still don't believe it?

OK, here is the official numbers from BMW:

BMW to import diesels into the U.S.!-screenshot517.jpg

0-100 Km/h: 5.8 the 545, 6.5 the 535d.

Now this makes ROFLMAO!

The 545 has less weight, less KG/PS... and they managed to be slower in almost every category...
They were not testing under the same conditions, mixed up the model numbers, or are plain and simple stupid.

NO WAY!
