I did and I agree. I'd never pick the 535d if I had a choice between 545i and 535d.
Iceman,
I've never driven the 545i and can only imagine it's a brilliant car both in terms of performance and sound. The 535d is a great car, for what it is. What, in your opinion, having driven both, are the main driving differences between the two?
I never even considered the 545i due to the price and economy.
Thanks

Never driven diesel before, but the engine ticking noise would kill me.

I had Lexus RX330 (Toyota Harrier) before and the valve ticking noise can only be heard when parking. This made me trade in for this E60. I'd have the same issue with the diesel. I guess.

Just got back from the 3 across America, and the M brand manager was there.? He was asked about diesels in the cars, and he pretty much said that it would not happen.?
He gave the following reasoning.? The would be able to meet the emissions in 2007 with the low sulfur fuel, but that California was working on new emissions criteria that they would not be able to meet.? Asked about having diesels in the other states, he said probably not.? They tried that once, and had so many people in states that could not have them, would go buy in another state, and then once they realized they could not register there cars back in ther original state, that there were alot of problems, buyback etc. and that they would not do it again.
So based on what I heard, we may never get em.
? Hopefully he is wrong.
