you need to tell me your secret! im 6'1 like the OP but 175 lbs and i feel skinny AS HELL! i want to gain wait before i hit the gym to convert it to muscle... or should i just hit the gym anyways? im into heavy lifting and its the only type of workout i would do... i cant gain weight to save my life...
One of the biggest misconceptions in the world is the "turn it to muscle" misconceptions. Nobody seems to know where it comes from... Fact is, fat is fat, muscle is muscle, period. You cant turn leather into gold just like you cant turn fat into muscle.
If you put weight on without lifting, you are putting on fat that you will eventually just have to lose. eat hard, train hard. You need to be taking in 3000-4000 calories a day, and 200 lbs of protien. dont skimp out! EAT CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think i need a new arms/back/biceps/tri's routine.. the regular p90x stuff is getting boring...
you think i should step up to the p90x plus workouts? or maybe someone here as an effective custom routine that'll give good size gains?

Good luck on your p90x! I would like to try it but I am so unmotivated when I workout at home. The gym keeps me going.
Like others said before, your diet is most important! Supplements help also too. Check out nutraplanet.com for great pricing on supplements.
Here is what I take currently.
preworkout - NO Shotgun V3 (gives you great energy/focus but you should cycle it), ON Gold Standard
Intraworkout - AE Intrabolic
Post workout - ON Gold Standard
Night protein - Dymatize Elite Gourmet
Vitamins - Animal Pak (multi-V), Fishoil, Glucosamine, BCAAs
Also I eats ALOT!
