Can't speak to WA, but I've lived in CA for 15 years and never had a front plate. Got 2 tickets in that time. $10 fix it ticket.
After 12 years of no front plate in CA, I got pulled over early this year. The price go up to $45 now, I have to go to a police department to show them I put my front plate on, and paid the fee.

Yeah it sucks that we have to put front plates here in MA. I got pulled over for no front plates in Wellesley. I still see many people driving without one though....

That just doesnt make sense... if you're to put on the stupid chrome roundal plate might as well put on the real plate. By then you've already ruined the lines of the car and your bumper is drilled already.

Cuz those are suppose to be NEW cars so they have not received their real plates in the mail yet. That usually takes about 2 months. If you look on the front lower corner of the windshield you'll see a piece of registration paper showing / proving that the car is registered but have not received their real plates yet.

Paper dealer plate is the dealer taking advantage and advertising...

No plate at all, like me when new, is those that dont want to advertise!

But shouldn't you receive the plate before you take deliver of your car? That's strange, in HK plates are not government issue so we can make our own plate as long as it is yellow on the back and white on the front. But I prefer the dealer made one coz it comes with a BMW and a Mini logo

Nope... when you buy the car the dealer usually applies for the plate for you and you get that in the mail in about 2 months. Hence the Tax and "License" fee...

You get a piece of paper to stick on your windshield to show that you have paied the license fee and thats it.

In US, there is no waiting period. You walk in to the car dealer, pick the car you like, and drive it home. The registration and license plate will mail it to you lately. I bought my e60 3 months ago, I just received my plate last week, I am not planning to put it on for another few months.

I am confused with many people from US waiting for their new e60 in this forum. They are waiting for their e60 to be build and with a delivery date. If you are looking for a uniqe color, special options, or it's a 550/M5, that I can understand. But most of them are very standard colors and options, why the wait?? Can anyone explain. thanks.
