Verizon basically wanted to turn it into crap and 'verizon' it up like the voyager (i have one)

I'm sure they regretted their decision soon after.
That's something I didn't know. Thankfully things must have changed because Verizon has not Verizoned up the Droid. My wife's Samsung Rogue is all Verizoned up and it royally sucks, but it came out before the Droid. Somehow given i.Phone's raging success, I doubt that Verizon would try to Verizon it up. If iPhone goes to Verizon, Verizon's and iPhone's market share would both jump.

HTC sues Apple

Why is it Apple can no longer keep a secret?

Here's some food of thought:

The problem with Android is the OS fragmentation.

Different versions of Android OS makes it difficult for developers.

Different hardware support is another developer hurdle.

There's also the money spent on apps (attractive to developer's ROI) and apps downloaded (attractive to advertisers).

There's also web usage analytics which show that iPhone users "view more" out of proportion to handsets sold. These "views" are critical to advertiser decisions and influence site design.

Android has dug itself into a bit of a hole with its business model in that even if they sold more handsets, the multiplicity of hardware and OS versions and customization for such version needed for a given hardware type, can discourage both developers and advertisers.
So now the question begs to be asked: do we have a windows mobile open source brother? I think yes!

okay, apple can't keep a secret... because they don't want to. it is NOT coincidence that they happen to leave a very sacred iphone 4.0 in some bar for gizmodo to get their hands on. this was done as a marketing hype for next gen iphone because apple needed it since all the rage is about droids these days.

and yes, verizon has learned its lesson when it comes to "verizoning" things up... at least i hope. they'd have to considering the major FAIL with the iphone contract and its success on AT&T.

another thing. i'm waiting for the phone that will destroy both iphone and droids, the nvidia tegra.

Mel, the top rated, newest Android smartphone on Verizon is the Droid Incredible by HTC: http://phones.verizonwireless.com/htc/incredible/

It has gotten terrific reviews including an Editors' Choice award from CNET: http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/...CarouselArea.0

Here are some more reviews of the device: http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/19/d...edible-review/ and http://gizmodo.com/5520071/htc-droid...ike-impressive and http://www.mobilemag.com/2010/05/14/...one-killer/and http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews...ble/10909.html and http://www.zdnet.com/blog/cell-phone...-wireless/3569

But if you want a physical keyboard, go with the Motorola Droid on Verizon. I have one and I love it.

I am in your boat -- living in NYC, I would never go back to AT&T Wireless as my cell carrier regardless of whether they offer the iPhone.

Scott, does your firm allow you to access your corporate email and data on an Android phone? Mine won't at this point due to some security features that aren't present in the OS. We're BlackBerry or iPhone only right now...

Steve, this is a hot button issue for me because I am on the firm's technology committee.

The answer is yes...for now. We have hundreds of attorneys and senior staff who have Blackberries. Several dozen have iPhones. A very few (myself included) have Android phones hooked into corporate email but given Android's mushrooming popularity, I would expect that number to grow rapidly in the next . Unless we can find an ability to do a remote wipe from our servers for Android phones, we may cut off access and ban them from being hooked into the email. So it is an open issue that we are dealing with.
