Does anyone know why there are no USA teams in F1?
As Phill pointed out, there's a team on the way. In general, however, it just isn't a big sport here. There are just too many home-grown motorsports like NASCAR, IRL, American Le Mans series, etc. that have events from coast to coast, and interact more with the fans. It's a shame for those of us for whom F-1 is a favorite, but we're certainly in the minority in the US.

Americanos historically have a difficult time embracing sports they did not create (e,g., Futbol/Soccer/Football, rugby, cricket, etc.). There certainly is some ethnocentrism at play, but I would attribute most of it to basic tradition.

BTW: I'm glad Canada is back on the circuit! At least now I can attend another GP in the near future. Work used to take me to Malaysia for the race, and I attended the GP at Indianapolis a few times, but '09 was barren. I already had plans to attend the Canadian GP earlier this year when it was cancelled. It sounds like things are looking up for 2010.

Yes, the Canadian GP is quite an event. I went in '08.

Any interest in pulling together an E60 trip to next year's Canadian GP (assuming it's confirmed)?

Better yet, if F1 and Tony George come to their respective senses maybe we can arrange a trip to the US GP when it gets back on the calendar...

I'm in for one or both depending on my schedule. No matter what, I will see at least one GP in 2010.

So it's confirmed then, Alonso to Ferrari.

Will be interesting to see how Alonso plays out at Ferrari, Phill...

Anyone think Button can seal the title this weekend?

Here's how he can do it:

Button wins and Barrichello is lower than third
Button is second and Barrichello is lower than fifth
Button is third and Barrichello is lower than seventh
Button is fourth and Barrichello is lower than eighth

Barrichello's title hopes end (as do Vettel's for that matter) if Buttons scores five more than Barrichello (neither Rubens nor Vettel can match Button's races won total for the season, even if they did ultimately match him on points).

Sucks for Massa because Ferrari is classic '#1 driver' kind of team and they will expect Fernando Alonso to assume that role, leaving him( Massa) to test new bits, run alternate race strategies, fend off rivals etc. I suspect Kimi is out because he never clearly separated himself from Massa.

As for Button, who knows.......it depends on wether the track is suited to the Brawn chassis, specifically the ability to get heat into the tires. If this is again an issue then Rubens will likely out perform Jenson, but as you have highlighted, the scenarios favor Jenson.

I think it is a great fit. He should be a championship favorite every season. Looking forward to the Alonso vs Hamilton battles. Back to Mclaren vs Ferrari, this year was just boring as hell.
