Hmmm...interesting.
I wouldn't expect it would draw much current to draw the battery but what do I know?
Haven't the other members reported that everything shuts down?

more info on that at http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=68029
GW500 says that it understands the 'sleep' command and goes out about 2 min after doors lock (haven't tested myself as I have it all tucked into the glovebox.

Bought a GW500 on the Group Buy after doing all the necessary research and am having a significant technical problem. Dension tech support (via e-mail) has not been real helpful... Maybe someone here can offer some suggestions or share their experience.
Car is a 2006 530i, CDC pre-wired, no nav, single in-dash CD reads MP3 CDs (displays full text of contents) but does not play them. Car was built in 09/2005. GW500 is latest v2.15 firmware.
Got the GW500 physically installed following notes here and it has power and the fiber loop is fine - no physical installation issues.
Took it to the dealer for iPod programming per the Dension notes. Dealer reports that BMW software sees Dension but install fails as it does not match the standard BMW CD Changer code. So, complete failure on iPod programming attempt. Dension tech support states that:
Which is the opposite of what GW500 posted on 8/31/08 on another forum here:
What!@#@ Clearly the GW500 does not "fully" identify itself as Dension states otherwise the BMW iPod programming would have worked. It is my understanding the programming is a stepwise effort starting with CDC modules, iPod modules, and then, possibly, MP3 retrofit. My options appear to be:
1. Get a CDC, install it, have the car programmed for it, take it out, install GW500 and continue iPod programming (how wonderful...)
2. Get a BMW iPod adapter, install it, have the car programmed for it, remove, install GW500, knock on wood. (let's see, I have to install a BMW iPod adapter to the the GW500 to work, makes sense...)
3. Sell the GW500.
Anyone have any further insight into this? Or personal experience? I've read all the various threads, potential issues with my particular car, etc. and never saw this scenario come up. It would be nice is Dension tech support was both more helpful and bothered to answer open tickets more than once every few days.
Finally, to be really clear, how have owners set their GW500s for the BMW programming:
- in diagnostic mode?
- in GW500 mode w/appropriate DIP switches set?
My two local BMW dealers are of no help and can only begin to understand an issue if it is on a BMW tech notes sheet.
Thanks for any help.

If currently CD-Changer port is not activated in your BMW, the only way to activate it is by connecting a real BMW CD-Changer, activating it, after this, you can fit the Gateway 500 without problems.
If you don't have a CDC, all you need to do is to install Gateway 500 and at the dealer enable IPOD option (the similar one as for the OEM BMW iPod interface). The Gateway 500 fully identifies itself as an iPod interface so the diag comp won't realise the difference.

I never have any contact w/ Dension tech. support people. AFAIK it will NOT work if you do retrofit programming CD Changer w/ the Dension.
What I did set the GW500 regular (not diagnostic mode) and set dip switches #1, #2 & #6 up/on and have the dealer select the iPod retrofit programming path directly since Dension GW500 will announce itself to BMW SSS programming station as an iPod interface module.
Not sure if your dealer aware, I don't think in order to have iPod interface module the dealer must turn on the CD Changer first ('cuz they are exclusive) if they do they must be on crack.
Some link of what I mentioned previously:

If your dealer pressing that in order to program the iPod module it must follow thru CD Changer first that mean you must have the physical CDC in place then replace w/ iPod module 'cuz each module must be present during programming. So what happen if the customer only simply want to have iPod module? Buy CDC first?
PS: BTW The latest firmware is 2.16 available here -> http://www.dension.com/index.php?pageID=35

There are a lot of variables here, but from my reading of other threads, if you are having a Dension or BMW iPod adapter installed, have:
- car programmed for iPod support
- this may also upgrade the version of Progman in the car
- once all the other programming is done, have the dealer try the MP3 retrofit software upgrade. For non-CCC cars, the update appears to work when the car is upgraded to newer version of software, but not before.
