all i did (dint need to unwrap cable, i was at this exact stage your showing with this image) i plugged the bmw connector shown in that image into one of the dension connect heads (comes with the kit) and literary plugged that into the left port on the dension, so the car is going directly into the dension

also noticed that the dension seams to stay alive lol as with the car turned off and even locked lol my little usb stick light is still flashing away and the blue dension status light on the aux port is on

they wouldn't draw much current would they?

Hmmm...interesting.

I wouldn't expect it would draw much current to draw the battery but what do I know?

Haven't the other members reported that everything shuts down?

there really is nothing to screw up i think the worst thing that could happen is you get the power the wrong way round lol, but im pretty sure the dension will be diode protected ne way

rest is optics which u just cant hurt if it aint right it just dont work / wont hurt the system


the setup is basically car > dension

LOL cant go wrong

Excellent picture diagram there. To make it completely Plug-N-Play I ordered these parts from the dealer for the Power divide.

1 x UNIVERSAL SOCKET HOUSING UNCODED 3 POL. 61138377072
1 x UNIVERSAL PIN TERMINAL UNCODED 3 POL. 61136931929
2 x PIN-CONTACT 0,75MM 61130006664
2 x BUSHING CONTACT 0.75MM 61130006663

Total cost= $11.37 tax included.

So the power cable form CDC gets split into two ways (one for the CDC, one for the GW) without cutting or tabbing any wire with the help of these parts. Excellent explanation at bruce_mirands's thread. And for the rest, follow the Dension directions to the wire, can't go wrong.

And don't worry about the power staying of after turning the car off if you use the power from the CDC cable. After the car goes to sleep (in about 15-20 minutes of inactivity after shutting down) it cuts off. I have actually seen this as I was also worried about the power staying on.
