Any update on this? I've tried to play mp3 cd's written as per instructions at start of this thread but i get the "medium cannot be read" message every time too. Version on I Drive is I-06-03-510-051122 which I believe is MP3 compatible.

Any help greatfully received.
Hi,

I have a Sept 2006 520D no Nav No Bluetooth etc.
Manual actually states MP3 available on some models and is not specific as to which. Tried burning CD's and got the same "media cannot be read". Enquired of BWM UK Customer services and told MP3 not available and can't be fitted to my car on a 56 Plate.

However had a problem with TP reception on the radio and after a lot of diagnosis with helpfull local Dealer and BMW Bracknel and a lot of research by me on how RDS works and after re-educating Bracknel, proving fault was with M-ask unit and not the aerial, diversity unit, aerial amp or anything else I have persuaded BMW to change single CD (M-ASK) unit in my car (its in today). Will require a CIP software update so I am hoping a current (i.e. new 2008) M-ASK unit and latest software will enable MP3.

I will let you know what happens.

PS according to the helpful Dealer the reason BMW are loath to replace the M-ASK unit is because it is coded onto an individual car and once coded canot be re-set and hence used on any other vehicle. Retail cost of the M-ASK unit (bear in mind the most basic not the more advanced CCC used where Bluetooth or NAV is fitted) is ?1,000. So BMW are very loath to change these under Warranty.

Of course the only reasons to make them un-usable on any other vehicle are 1. to prevent theft (they could do that by making them dealer re-codable if not reported stolen) and 2. so you can't go get one donw a scrapyard to save ?1,000 later in the cars life if the unit fails.
Given these reasons I am not feeling too much sympathy for BMW's Loss on my warranty claim!

NB The single cd M-ASK unit also controlls the I-Drive and LCD display so if it has a fault you really do need to fix it!

OK;
This is driving me up the wall.
I have Windows Vista and Nero 7 Essentials. I have checked every tab, every option but cannot find the ISO9660:1999 anywhere.
I've tried to burn as an MP3 disc and as a data disk and all I get is Media is not recognised error.

The car is a 520d SE March 2006, standard fit CD.

Any help really appreciated.

Thanks in advance
RM
Hi,

I have read the whole thread now. And I think the pre-2006 cars (including my 2005 525) without NAV can NOT play the mp3-CDs even if the CIP code is above 21. Am I right?

If someone having a car older than MY 2006 without NAV, that is only having a single CD, and that manage to play MP3-CDs please verify that. Unless someone proves that I am wrong I will stop trying buring CD-Rs now....

BR,
Clas

Hi All

Any M-ASK and CCC can play mp3 CD's , it is a matter of getting it programed right by the BMW dealer !!! , thy choos the option "mp3" in the PROGAM BMW-tester/computer , we have done this lot's of time's on warrios E60/61 from 07/03 and up.

First time was on my owne 12/03 525IA , with regular M-ASK , and also later one with my CCC ( made a nav. opgrade)

If you fit a E90/91/92 CD-changer ( built after 06/06) you can also get mp3 function from this ( 7 CD's with mp3 music in all ), you just have to had the CD-changer allready in the car , or mount/connect a CD-changer from a E60/61 when programing the CD-changer function at the first time , and also mp3 function to the M-ASK/CCC , then you will get the mp3 function on the CD-changer to ( the CD-changer from the E90/91/92 when you switc from the org. E60/61 CD-changer used for programing)

Hope this make any sence for you , my engilsh is not perfect ( I know )

Hi ey2001

The mp3 function is nothing you get automaticly by updating to new "overall" software , the mp3 function have to be coded to the M-ASK/CCC as a seperate option with the PROGMAN/DISPlus or GT1 computer by the BMW-dealership ( or elswere ) , the same is for function's like I-Pod , AUX ,TV ,ACM, etc.

I have 2005 545i with Navi in the US.

tried these methods to burn MP3 CDs described above - doesnt work. It won't even recognize that the disc is in. Irregular CD's are playing OK..
Tried in DVD drive - same thing..

I wonder may be i use wrong CDs - its memorex recordable CD> or , most likely, this model year - 2005 - doesn't support mp3 playback yet.. which is sucks

Greetings everyone!

I read the entire thread and still confused...here is my issue:
I have a '05 545 (March '05 production) with bluetooth, but NO NAV. I can play my CD's and it works fine; however, I do not get the songs name to come up on the idrive. If I take my car to the dealer can they update so I can have the song name appear on the screen? All I get is numbers which is not fun!!!

Please HELP!!!!
