Greetings everyone!

I read the entire thread and still confused...here is my issue:
I have a '05 545 (March '05 production) with bluetooth, but NO NAV. I can play my CD's and it works fine; however, I do not get the songs name to come up on the idrive. If I take my car to the dealer can they update so I can have the song name appear on the screen? All I get is numbers which is not fun!!!

Please HELP!!!!

Hey val,

It will only play MP3's in the CD Player on your dash.
Also note, you need to have the MP3-CD retrofit done (which is free by your dealer).

Hi

If you get your CCC or M-ASK coded for mp3 , it is right it will only play the CD in mp3 format in the CD player in the dashboard , not from the CD-changer ( if you have such ) . BUT if you after the mp3 option coding of the CCC/M-ASK change the CD-changer for the E60/61 to a CD-changer from a 3'serie ( E90/91/92/93 ) newer than Jun. 2006 , you will also be able to play CD's in mp3 format from this CD-changer , you can purchase thees cheep on E-bay , and all connectors are the same ( plug & play ), and no furtur coding is needed for this , for later coding or updates , you will have to mount the Org. E60/61 CD-changer under the coding , afterwards you just put the mp3 CD-changer back in again , just a tip .

Thanks for clarifying that!

I took my 545i to the dealer a couple months ago for the MP3 retrofit. They did it under warranty. Drove myself crazy b/c none of my MP3 CDs would play and I tried all kinds of burn settings. So today I took it back in to tell them they didn't do it correctly and I was sure to bring one of my MP3 CDs. Service guy takes the CD and puts it in a new 3 series, and it plays! So they're going to fix it. Maybe some of you are in the same situation.

+1. I had a software upgrade to CIP 32 partly to be able to play mp3 in the head unit (Prof Nav) drives me nuts that after 3 CDs burnt with Windows as mp3 and the last one with Itunes as mp3 it still does not read them. "Format not recognised" message displayed. Ahhhhh. I think 5 years ago you could buy and Alpine cd changer with mp3.

Does anyone know of a good application or program we can use to convert the bitrates from VBR to CBR? One that will retain the ID3 tag info?

Hi all:
Sorry to jack this thread, but, I just had my CCU replaces, and the latest updates. Now it wasn't playing my mp3 cds anymore, dealer plays for a while, and the tech tells me I cannot have folders/layers on the cds anymore, its part of the latest programming he guessed.

Anyone experience this? It recognized a disc without layers, but wouldn't play it, and wouldn't recognize a disc with layers.

Any help? I am at a loss.

Thanks,
Jimbo

Thanks OP for all the research and info. I want to add something more.

Burn your cd's using a desktop burner, laptop burners tend to SUCK. I was burning discs on my Dell XPS m1330 laptop and the radio would have random intermittent problems reading files.

Following the exact same procedures but burning the disc using my Dell XPS 420 desktop produced flawless discs. No more annoying intermittent reading problems!

hi guys, my first post

so I was in the dealership today. so the dealer confirmed that my car ( Jan 06 produced 525i) should be able to play mp3. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE TO CHARGE ME HALF HOUR LABOUR TO HAVE IT ENABLED, WTF? so, I have to pay for a feature ,which suppose to be working at the first place, to have it working? that is total bullshit.

I am just wondering if you guys have any proof to show the dealer this should be covered under warranty?

P.S. the pdf file Lomac ( spelling) showed is for cars until sept, 2005, so my car doesn't fall into that

p.p.s I am located in Canada... unfortunately, where dealers have most horriable services.

any help is appreciated
