I know I'm the new guy here and over the past several days, I think I stirred up a beehive of trouble with a lot of you E60 guys. If I offended anyone by anything I've said, I'm sincerely sorry. It's just that some of the comments that I've read over the last several weeks brought back a lot of the negative emotion that I've experienced back in 2004 from fellow Roadfly members. I guess being an "early adopter" once again, I really should have expected this and should have developed a "thicker skin."

Peace.
As many including Rudy have said, no need to apologize. We love the car and we can be over critical. High standards are not a bad thing and it's this that makes the BMW a benchmark for all other makes.

I bought my '04 E60 despite it's bad looks. My M-sport '08 had grown to be meerly unoffensive to me. But now, I look at my car and keep thinking how great it looks. That's an extraordinary thing to say about any eight-year-old design. And I'm positive the we won't think the same thing at the end of the F10's cycle.
There is no doubt in my mind that the F10's design is not the risk-taking, ballsy, break the mold design that the E60 was when it debuted. But I really like the looks of the F10 as it reminds me of my beloved E39. As an enthusiast, however, I lament the big time weight gain caused by adding content, enlarging the car and, worst of all, eliminating some of the aluminum used in the E60 (a cost-cutting move if I've ever seen one).

But the reality is that most 5 Series buyers are not hard core ethusiasts. We on this board do not represent the 50% percentile 5 Series owner.

From a business standpoint, by giving the 5 Series much more luxury, more size, more room and by vesting it with a less polarizing design, I believe that the F10 will outsell the E60 by a considerable margin. The F10, to me, has significantly greater appeal to the general public than the E60 did. So I believe that BMW went for boosting the bottom line at the expense of the hard core ethusiasts. But unless you are Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin or Lambo, and if you want to sell hundreds of thousands of cars per year, a car company has to appeal to the masses and cannot survive on the business of hard core enthusiasts alone.

+1

Big bones and bigger muscles, so who cares if it adds an extra 500 lbs! That 550 is a beast and full of power, the other day one passed me on the highway and I tell you it was a looker. It is so wide from the back and a mean looking machine, I can only imagine how this car is going to look with the Aero package and some 19" or 20" wheels of course other than what BMW is offering now!!!! Cannot wait to see the F10 M5........
