5 vs. 7
#1
I just cannot believe how similar the 5 and 7 now seem to be (appearance wise). With the E60 and E65, they looked so different inside and out. When you saw the interior of a 7, you knew it. Same on the outside.
Now when I see the cars from a distance, it's hard to tell. When I look at gallery pics of the interior, it's almost like looking at the same car. I am still surprised at this.
I really like the F10 and I am not sure why people would spend so much more money on a 7. To me, the 5 seems like a no-brainer (between the two). I know the 7 offers more room, more prestige (I suppose), and I know some Asian cultures like the chauffeured thing. So again, more room in a 7. But still. All things considered?? Hmmmm....

Just beginning the negotiation process with my dealer on a new M3 to replace my 2008 550. Was exchanging emails with my SA when he replied that they had cars on the lot that he could offer a $10,000 discount. I jokingly asked it was an M5 to which he replied how about a 750Li! I declined but was curious if the sales of the 7 series are that weak because of the economy or because the F10 is cannibalizing sales.

I have actually always liked the 7 -- still do. I just cannot believe how the cars look soooo similar now. If you're looking at the interior, can you tell the difference? The mid-console, radio area, and seats look the same to me. That was not the case with the E60 and E65, that's for sure.

For me, I'm glad my F10 550i looks more like a 7 series.....as opposed to a 3 series I guess (except the rear tailights which does resemble a 3 more)....kinda justifies the higher price tag on my F10
Anyways, I love the added luxuries and extra amenities on my F10. The low, wide stance and the LED corona headlights gives this car a "presence" on the road and makes it a real head turner. This is one Seriously refined automobile...not one squeak or rattle anywhere. Bank-vault solid and quiet. The workmanship and quality of the materials inside and out is simply top-notch and goes way beyond what I experienced in my last E60. The car never loses its composure no matter what road condition. The 4.4 TTV8 is a PERFECT match for this car! (more so than in the 7 series I think). Absolutely flawless power delivery with no hesitation whatsoever. The car is absolutely serene during normal cruising but can flat out fly when you want it! This is the perfect executive luxury sports sedan!

I drove a 750i, and great engine along with few more inches of legroom in the back. Almost perfect car if you're carrying passengers. The 750iL is too big for my tastes. While the 7 and 5 look similar, I like the 5er front end much better, especially with the M styling.

The 7 is of course a bit more quiet and a bit more of everything.
But for sure the 5-series has made a big hop from the E60 to F10.
But the 5 series is about as large as can be in downtown Helsinki,
actually the F10 it is a bit too large already.

The 7 is a very nice car, however, I wouldn't want one - it's just too big for my tastes. The 5er for me is the perfect size. Also, with the 7 it seems like buying a Bentley or Rolls Royce, you should never know what it feels like to drive - for those cars you should have a driver to take you IMHO.

Sounds like we all agree. The 7 is a great automobile (like the 5).
But wow, what were they thinking making them so similar? Seems like the interiors (at least) should be very different. Oh well, no biggie.
I look forward to getting my F10 in 2 years. My son is 3 now and when he goes to kindergarten, there's A LOT more $ available without pre-school bills.

I mistake the F10 for the new 7 all the time.... It's only when the car is driving away that I see the rear lights and then I know....
This to me tells me that: If you get the F10, people will think you're just driving a big executive's 7'er and not a more sporty car.
Just that fact dampens any desire to get the F10 and stay with my E60...
