I read the same thing in Roundel and I think it's just plain wrong.
I don't believe that the new 7er and 5er will be introduced a few months apart or that BMW will break with the seven-year product cycle. I'll take bets that the F10 is introduced sometime in 2010 and will be an MY11, at least in the US.

Is it really so far fetched? The new M3 coupe , M3 Sedan and X6 are all showing up one on top of the other.
I think the 5 and 7 markets don't overlap as much as you might imagine.
I understand they may want to use the fanfare sparingly and have exciting news every year, but with so many models in the lineup BMW could have the next 4 years of exciting media blitzs fanfare all planned out without holding back the F10 release.

If I were to bet, I'd have to go for the normal roll out.
However, BMW does seem to be doing a lot of mid year intros. They could stack the 5 series 6 months after the 7 which puts it at spring '09.
Competition is tough out there. The 7 year schedule means that the 5 series will be way behind the competition by then, including the announcement of an '09 380hp Hyundai that will supposedly compete with the 7 series! at high 3 series pricing. The 400hp TT V8 will be needed to stay ahead.

Well the MB E class runs on a 7 year cycle also, so what's the big deal? And no BMW buyers will ever consider buying a Hyundai. The Hyundai model is really to compete in the 5 series class, not 7 series. The Japanese automakers such as Acura would probably worry a bit.

I'm sure most here are aware of the fact that E60 sales have been "skyrocketing"...
E60 Sales for February
Not too bad considering the auto industry isn't doing too well overall. As it stands right now, I don't see BMW as being under
as much pressure as it may seem. In fact, ever since BMW changed over to the E90's engines, E60 sales have been right on track.
So you can just imagine how good it will get for them if they just tweak the N54 and then add the N63.
Even though there is heavy competition, BMW will do better to wait as long as possible for the F10 in order to cash in on the
pent up demand. In the meantime they'll not only upgrade the E60's engines, but in all likelihood add extra equipment or
rearrange packages in order to further boost interest.

That sounds right to me. I agree with the roll out plans.
