OK sorry for going quiet but I've had a lot to think about.
Basically we arranged that second test drive from my local dealer and I have to say I was super impressed this time, I got to use the M button and everything but my girlfriend came and drove it this time too and she hated the SMG gear box.
Don't get me wrong, she liked the car but not enough to want to spend ?40k ( our budget may have changed ) and to cap it all she test drove a Porsche 4S Tip a few days before and fell it love it.
I've also been following a thread over on the M5Board where they are talking about these cars loosing ?1500 per month which for a second car at this moment for me is not what I'm looking for so I'm currently taking stock and looking at other cars that my girlfriend likes as well.
I guess the world won't be a bad place if I have a 911.
Oh yeah and I'm having problems with my early 2005 535D which are putting me off an early M5 too. I can't get any of my phone to work with the bluetooth and the new iPod Interface it pants.
Heh up mate,
My boyhood dream was always the Porsche 911 Turbo but, I grew out of that when marriage and the kids came along, I guess your girlfriend and kids will probably like the Porsche, but as a family car the M5 wins hands down for me. My youngest son is 25 and he loves my ride.................................... thats when I let him have a go in it.
Dont forget your girlfriend can drive the M5 with the paddles and with the gearstick, in my oppinion the only way they should be driven anyway, apart from the stop start around town.
All big powefull cars are depreciating at the moment whatever you buy but it will slow down once things hopefully start getting better with the market, how come 40k is available have you won a bit of brass
Anyway mate its your choice not mine get what you will enjoy............................................. ....but buy the M5
