OMG......I've only asked the dealer in Bromley for a Part Ex price

This could all go really wrong now......but then I've just spoke to a nice man in swindon about this http://www.dicklovett.co.uk/hitlist.php?dg...5&model=48# ( second one in Black ) and this could tick all my boxes and it's newer

FOOK ME

They have offered me ?17k for mine...So I guess the M5 hunt is over now as I'll have to sell it privately to achieve the ?20k I want for it.

OH DEAR

I was hoping I could sell it or ?22k but obviously part ex was never going to yield that kind of money.

Given private sale prices I think ?20k is a reasonable return.

So, I told him I guess I'll leave it then but if he can do anything else ( they paid ?30k for the car he said ) then come back to me. He then slipped in to "desperate to sell an M5 which was ?33k and is not ?30k but we still can't shift it mode" and said well what is the minimum you'd take part exchange wise.....I said ?19k would do it and he said ok I'll see what I can do.

Sorry to hear about the low offer on your oil missile. I went through the same thing myself when I swapped out my 535d and although the dealer did me a decent deal on the M5 I was buying in compensation I couldn't help thinking that ?20k was a mindblowingly low price of entry into a great piece of machinery. As I handed them the keys I actually said as much to them - someone was going to get a fantastic car in near perfect condition for not much more than Mondeo money. Insane. I had one memorable journey to my wife's parents house in Germany when I did 220 miles at an average of 132mph and used just 26 litres (5.7 gallons! ) of diesel. Couldn't convince my wife that I should have the "Flying Lounge" (535d) and the "Land Shark" (M5) though.

good luck with this and report back as soon as you hear anything. i swapped my 545 for the M5 at the dealer too .. was criminal what they paid me (?13k), but i HAD to have the M5 they were offering so went ahead with it. when i come to sell the M, there's NO WAY ON EARTH I'd give it to them. private sale for me!

Slight update with good and bad news.

Firstly the good news. My fear of the SMG that I got when I test drove a 2003 M3 has gone. It would take some getting used too but it didn't kill me either and I was happily driving it with little problems ( except dropping down to 2nd in error at 60 LOL )

The bad news the test drive didn't excite me. There are lots of factors I think that caused this like the car was a shed from The Car Shop (http://www.carshop.co.uk/used-cars/v...-m5-m5-4dr-smg), I didn't really get much of a drive, the boy who escorted me knew nothing about the car so couldn't guide me with the SMG controls, I never got chance to try the M button etc etc etc.

I found the car without the M button pressed in much more solid on the road than my 535D but weirdly ( and I guess this is because I wasn't trying very hard ) not much more powerful. In the 10 miles or so i drove i achieved 17.1mpg though LOL

So what I know now is.

This car is for me and the SMG is nothing to be worried about.
I liked it a little more than my current ride (TBF the 535D is a hard act to follow ) but didn't feel I wanted to sell all my four children to buy it but if I got an amazing deal on one that I would definitely change.
I don't think there is enough of an "upgrade" for me personally to justify a ?12000 upgrade for a car of the same age.

So for the moment I shall keep my eyes open on Auto trader and the BMW AUC and basically wait until the right car for the right price comes along and then start living my M5 owing experience.

I hope you guys don't feel me being negative to the M5 is a shun on a brilliant car it's only that for me personally I already drive a car that might score say 8/10 ( mine is pretty loaded like the M Car ) where the M5 is 10/10 so the jump is not massive ( again don't flame me his is my personal option based on the type of driving/style I have ).

Bottom line is M5 is the ultimate for me and I'm not a afraid to own one but it's got to be at the right price to make it worth while. If that means waiting another 6 months thats what I'll do.

Thanks guys for your support through this process.......and watch this space :-)

Biglad,

Firstly Im sorry to hear this news, I really did think that you were going to bite the bullet on this car.

Secondly with this numpty not being able to show you how the M5 works PROPERLY this may have been a little off putting, but...........................................how on earth this car doesnt "float your boat" is a mystery to me.

I have never driven a saloon car in the world to match an M5.........fact!!

The power in an M5 is far greater than your present car (with respect) so it must have someting wrong with the car not to impress you, what a pity.

My previous car was an E46 M3 that only had it limiter removed and I didnt think that there was much to match this for excelleration and top end (apart from the Supercars) but boy since driving this missile I now own driving is beleiving, I dont think I would want to move away from this SUPERCAR EVER, sod the petrol, sod the green party I just love this cart from the bottom of my heart (christ Im filling up now)

As I said in my previous post your very welcome when your in my neck of the woods to come and try my BEAST out, it will be a pleasure, im fifty mate but have a heart of a twenty year old, I will show how the GREAT M5 MOVES no problemo!!

I so want to love it.
