Sounds awesome!!
If you are getting 34mpg from the 535d I bet you do get 18mpg from the M5. I could live with that!

w8pmc, the dms remap will give you a lot of power in the middle range , so would help your economy?
i would have suggested a cls550 (Cls63 amg being too expensive at around ?80000) , which has a lot of torque at lower revs, but you cant fault the m5

I love the CLS & could find a CLS55 AMG for sensible money, but the non AMG is not worth really considering & as you say the true performance competitor the CLS63 AMG is too pricey at the moment.
Happy to run an M5 for a while

That's my potential thinking, but i'll probably live with the car 1st before jumping on that boat.

.... you did the right thing, the CLS55 AMG is outdated, the CLS550 is not available yet and when it comes out it will cost near m5 money... And besides old CLS550s wont come on the market for the next 8-12months at least.BTW.. the new 5.5litre non amg motor produces (388ps)393bhp/530nm and does 0-60mph in 5.1s
it is completely different to the old motor, and seems to be a great performer, with the torque arriving at only 3000rpm and staying until 5200rpm.. Sure its no m5, but it offers a lot of accessible performance, and in city driving will be a match...
BTW have you read the latest evo? They were measuring 0-100-0 (mph) on the m6, and found that by doing a normal start they got better times than with launch control... optimal LC really does require a combination of tyres, weather, road and skill even. So not that accessible.
they measured for the m6
0-60mph with LC 5.02s
0-60mph without LC 4.84s

Tis nice & perhaps a contender, but not for now & given the arrival (hopefully) of my 997 Turbo in March 2008, i'll probably miss out on taking a CLS, however i will need a car to bridge the gap between M5 being sold around Nov 2007 (6mths before warranty runs out) & Porker arriving, however a CLS would be a depreciation nightmare for a 4mth ownership unless their are some good value used examples by then.
difficult finding objective people here.http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&showtop...ndpost&p=275462
i recently advised a friend , who was choosing between cls550/m5/650i.. I advised hiim to go for the cls550i, as it has a lot of power, is easier and less taxing to drive than an m5 (dont hate me), and he ends up with around ?7000 in his pocket. The only thing i would really miss is the active side bolsters in the m5.. they are so incredible... But you get an active headrest, semi active side bolsters and ventilated seats to keep you cold..
Nevertheless my neighbour bought a used M5 , and i must admit my heart beats faster every time i see the car

I've no intention of spending time figuring out the infinate launch control & gear change settings, so i'll find the ones i'm comfortable with & stick with that.
Perhaps at the next VMAX i'll have a proper play, but i've always found when you try to be very clever when launching it all goes wrong. Also their is something in the M5/M6 software that does not allow more than 1 aggressive LC in a 5minute period or something like that.

I've no need for ventilated seats as in the UK, the seats will never get hot enough to cause discomfort so the good air-con & heated seats are a greater requirement.

Is that 0-60 or 0-62?? for the M6, as it's a way off the BMW figures.

as far as i remember its 0-60... They commented on how hard it is to get a good time out of the m5/m6
as for 0-100mph it did it in 10.02s .. 0.6s behind a gallardo
