Certainly.

A dealer has a listing of every used car in their stock & this is made up of purchase price, any extras, finance costs & any other sundry items such as servicing, valeting & minor repairs etc. This is then what the vehicle stands them at i.e. cost to them if purchased or arrived in stock by P/X, other stuff as detailed above & any stocking finance costs. This is then what the vehicle actually stands the dealer at.

In most cases (this applies to 2nd hand cars sold by franchised new car dealers), the next customer will pay only a few hundred to perhaps a thousand ??'s over what the car stands the dealer at (their are sometimes a few exceptions but these are rare).

When purchasing an ex-demonstrator or Dealer Principals car, the dealer has to factor depreciation & finance costs (they finance most of their cars on what's called stocking plans) on top of what the car originally cost & they usually are packed to the brim with options, so my M5 is in the dealers books at ?66K & i purchased for considerably less than that, as they now are in debt & with the market in higher priced cars not overly active right now, it makes more sense for the dealer to sell the car at a book loss (they can offset this against their overall tax liability) & get shot of the asset.

I hope that explains things things a little?

Bottom line is that good ex-demo cars & those owned by Dealership owners or principals, make very good value purchases. This M5 is the 4th such car i've purchased, as my Audi S8 belonged to Preston Audi's DP, my RS6 was the next car the Preston Audi DP had & i purchased that, my 535D M-Sport was Bowker in Preston DP's car & this M5 is being bought off Mike Halliwell (Halliwell Jones owner).

Awesome, it's truly awesome. Everything i hoped it would be & so much more.

The car is an animal & much more raw & sports car like than the RS6 i had before the 535d M-Sport before my new M5. Gonna have to be careful whilst i get to grips with her as sge does bite back & with venom.

I'll do full write-up when i get back from Nurburgring in a couple of weeks & i'll try to take some photos next week.

I look forward to your write up. I was at the dealers today and they expect mine to arrive late July. I would like to read how you feel about the SMG, what kind of mileage you get under various conditions, overall impressions etc.

Enjoy, great color choice BTW.

Well you'll just have to wait. Summer has been & gone here as it's cold & damp again. I'm at a Christening today & will be very drunk later on, but if the sun comes out tomorrow i'll grab a couple of snaps, although i won't have time to clean her until next weekend.
