Today, I encoded a car!
What we have:
Standard shifter, shift box, sport button and paddles on the steering wheel.
See below.
It was necessary to change the firmware shiftboks as he did not see sport button.
I did not feel the difference, pressed or not pressed the button sport.
The Master says to change the firmware transmission ....... But it could be dangerous .... Transmission may die ...
What are your comments?

I know that it's a long time since you did this...
Did your SMD mods work?
Did the "shiftbox" rather than the EGS need its firmware updating?

I can answer your question if you don't mind ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
smd diy is pointless. there are few different boards. one of boards (non sat) has all SMD's in place. I can get part number of that non SAT shifter if you need.
both need updating. EGS and non sat shifter if you converting it to a SAT one

yes winkfp is needed to update the software. it just a matter to pick correct software for that particular board. Only one board has all SMD's in place also has pins for Sport button. other boards doesn't have any of them so a bit of soldering

Getting components and soldering is no problem, although Hermman seems to have missed some capacitors off his list...
How do I work out which software to use for the Shifter?
From reading the thread the EGS ( $205 to $2TB ) is easy enough to workout, I'm just stuck on the shifter.

if I remember correctly there are only 4 or 5 software numbers for sat. try one by one. you can't brick it. if you chose wrong one shifter won't work properly just try next one until you find correct one for your board

Looking at part numbers on RealOEM it seems like there was a change in 03/2009 so may be best to find a later part number.9213651, 9191207 or 9224211 this is for E61 LCI 530i
Also, trawling through software it seems like the SAT GWS software is GWSS60 where as the "normal" software is GWS60 do you think changing the VO to $2TB will allow me to program as GWSS60?
