I don't need the tablet. Because of the dynamic drive it stays stable and doesnt move:

Looks nice Iceman. My only questions are:

1) Is it mounted or just sitting there?

2) Isn't that location a bit too close for comfortable viewing?

It's just sitting there. I also have a holder to put it on the headrests or the sunblind. It's a littlebit closer than when it is mounted on the tablet. But it's easier to change DVD's (opens to the right where there is usually the backrest of the passenger seat when mounted ot the center console). I think it's about ten centimeters closer, but still further away then the headrest.
If I would have kids riding in the back I would buy the tablet. Safer (espacially when the kids play around with it) and a little bit more comfortable viewing... But since usually nobody rides in the back...

Gotcha. The DVD side-loading issue is exactly what I was talking about in my earlier post. I'm lucky that mine loads from the top. Now if I could only mount the darn thing...

There is another version of the bracket for players that have a rear mounting point

Yeah, but I don't have a rear mounting point either...

There is a hinged stand in the rear that pivots outward and allows the unit to stand on it's own. I'm thinking I'm either going to try to find a threaded mount somewhere that fits the standard (camera type, I imagine) and engineer a way to attach it to the player.

If not, I guess I can always use the rear mount bracket and a bunch of velcro, eh?

does the rear stand not extend down revealing a metal strip with square holes for mounting, mine has this as well as the threaded hole in the bottom.

I have researched this in the past as well.

Both RCA and Audiovox sell tablet DVD players here in the US. Both are SIDE loaded units with 7" LCD screens. Unlike the nextbase unit there is NO threaded mount with which to mate the unit with a bracket.

The nice thing about the Audiovox unit is that it supports wireless headsets. The not so nice thing is that it sells for more $$$ than the RCA unit.

Rudy's idea of velcro may actually be the best option, but be sure not to block the venting holes on the backside of this unit, or else it will fry.
