Hey everyone, it seems easy enough to fit the windshield seal on but mine is not pushing in on the driver's end. Its like something is in the way but I checked and the channel is clear of any debries. What could be stopping the one side from inserting? Do you think I possibly have a bad part? HELP!

Make sure the glass is clean and lubricate it with lots of warm soapy water. See if that helps.

good idea.

well it's like this... imagine... i am installing the molding and it is gliding right in the channel no problem at all. so i am saying to myself, man this will be done in a few minutes. then about a couple of inches of the last part to go in, it won't go in no matter how hard i force it. i mean the first part was uber easy in comparison.

why would just the very last part need soapy water? i mean its really really tough to push it in and i don't see anything apparent blocking the channel.

Seems common for these to disintegrate. It's not actaully a seal, just a trim piece, more for wind noise reduction I believe. Anyway I priced up the front top piece and it's like $10 at the dealer, the rear was about $30. They went bad on my E39 540 also.

I replaced mine by starting to seat the seal in the valley at both ends pushing to the sides as far as possible to get a snug fit against the side trim and then worked to the middle equally on both sides.

I think I tried that already and it still won't push in on the driver's side only. Argh. Maybe I'll give the warm soapy water method a try.

that sounds like a generous offer but santa ana is like 90 miles north of me though.

care to just give me some tips on what the trick is to do it myself?

there's got to be a reason why the one side won't push in whilst the other side is giving me no problem at all.

Windshield seal cracking off-2011-11-01-19.33.30.jpg

did mine last month and was a piece of cake.

sorry you're having trouble still. my guess as to why you're having trouble is what's immediately under the glass where you're having trouble tucking it in. something is holding this glass down, and so maybe it's this "something" that is preventing it from fully sealing. here's what i would do... take a small allen wrench (with a 90 degree bend) and with the short end tucked inside run it up and down the window. see if you're able to move it up and down with ease and not have anything underneath stop it. I hope I'm making sense. hope this helps and good luck
