i need to take mine in for the sunroof.. i dont know why but when i open it, it sounds like its about to break.. like it gets stuck for a while or something... there's nothing thats not letting it open though...
I took mine in to the dealer (BMW of Dallas) and they said there was nothing they could do about it. They made an adjustment but they didn't repair the problem. They said that this was the way the car was designed. I was shocked that a $65,000 car would be designed to have this poor flaw.

I also got a call from BMW of North America surveying about the service. They were equally useless. Anyway, this doesn't speak well for BMW. I don't have any wind noise in my Lexus.

I agree,

On my 540, I actually had the regional 'technical specialist' work on my car, and work on my car......and.....you get it right ?

In the end, he said thats the way these cars are ? :'(

The 545 wind noise was a bit better than the 540 and thankfully my 550 has been perfect..........so far......

Anyone experiencing excessive noise from their sun roof when driving on the highway?

My car is going in for a new windshield today and I want to mention sun roof problem to dealer, just don't want them to worsen situation.

Is a bit of noise normal when roof is closed? When sunshade is closed noise is not evident.

Is this a simple adjustment or do they have to take it apart?

Thanks
I had the same problem everyone is describing. Audible wind noise when the sunshade was open, yet no water leaks or visual gaps when the sunroof glass was closed. My dealer heard the noise and drove a new 550i to compare. The difference was obvious and they proceeded to diagnose the problem. The dealer found two screws had backed out that secure support bands for the sunroof. There was also an adjustment made at the rear of the sunroof. The sunroof is quiet now. No difference when having the sunshade open or closed.

Gabman-about 6-7 weeks ago my sunroof started to become very noisy and wind-whistled through it when the sliding shade was open and the glass closed. The shop foreman road in my car and pushed up on the closed glass which made the noise go away. It had gotten so bad that people were asking me to close my windows when I would talk on the hands-free speaker on the phone.
My dealer replaced the entire sunroof seal and now the car is quiet-roof closed, sliding panel open or not.

Hope this helps, Vinman

I had this problem as well. First and second time I took it in, they "adjusted" and "ground some metal down", but the wind noise was still there. 3rd time, tech drove with me and heard the noise. He replaced the seal and now everything is perfectly quiet w/r/t the wind noise... My advice is to MAKE them replace the seal... Good Luck!

I had my entire sunroof assembly replaced two weeks ago, and the Wind Noise problem did not go away. I am going back to dealer in the morning to have a service tech ride along with me to diagnose the problem. I will mention replacing the rubber seals to see if he agrees. I love this forum. You guys are great!

This should be reported to BMWNA.. I took mine to dealer for the wind-noise that comes in At 40-50mph, its sooo loud and annoying that I had to crank my audio volume to not hear it.. I just got my car back from Dealer (Hunterdon in NJ), now the noise is even higher Cranking up the audio volume I can still hear windnoises and cars noise passing by me!!

The Dealer had my car for 2days to fix this and eyebrow lights.. I cant believe I have to take it in again!! They take 2weeks+ just to give appointment for a loaner

BMW Free Maintenance is becoming a BIG Joke too!

Wow, I thought I was the only one. I just bought my CPO car and am just apalled at the wind noise when the shade is open. Something else to add to the list of fixes my dealer was SUPPOSED to complete before I took delivery. This forum is worth its bytes in gold!

I complained about this, I had signigicant wind noise starting at 40MPH when the shade was open and glass shut. SA immediately know what I was talking about, he said there is a bulleting out there. They adjusted it and changed the outer seals (Which by the way, were all dry, turning greyish and with creaks)

I put armor all in the new seals to keep them looking black and hopefully make them last longer.

Can anybody help find the bulletin number please? This way we can bring this number to the dealership and ask seal replacement which seems to be the only way to fix it.

In the meantime, can Wiu-Bimmer take a look at the receipt and see if there is a bulletin number listed for the job.

Thanks
