I hate that plastic trim piece around the shift boot. Makes the center console look cheap.
Easily remedied with a manual transmission!

I don't think so...I know you can configure if "all or drivers door only" open via FOB button. And I know of no confguration that disables the chiming when the key is left in the ignition/slot...if there is a way, please do tell.
It won't help with your current car and maybe stating the obvious, but with comfort access you don't need to insert the key to start, or press the buttons to lock/unlock the car. Perhaps order it next time?

After all the design and engineering to produce the sportiest sports sedan, BMW puts too small a limit on the distance that the steering wheel telescopes, which in my case (6'6") prevents me from achieving an ideal driving position (as I had with my previous 740i sport). I have comfort seats not sport seats, but I think the problem is the steering wheel adjustability in relation to the dashboard.
Hey, I thought the same! I'm glad I'm not alone UFO inhuman driver who would prefer a different driving position.

Also - the way the mirrors adjust when you put it in reverse. I am trying to back out of a narrow spot in my garage and instead of seeing if I have clearance - I am looking at the ground.........
All you have to do for that is shift the mirror control toggle to "adjust" that right mirror and the mirror won't move when you back out.

My least favorite thing is that the air intake is under the block. It's very frustrating ruining your engine driving through 6-7 inches of water-and watching a Mustang go through the same depth of water without any problems.

BTW, a new 3.0 I6 costs $15K

Yes! its impossible to tell if the lights are on!

Yes! we need an idrive option to disable most of the warning BONGS for people living outside USA (as far as I have tested US cars they all go Bong like crazy so people must be used to it)

lets hope BMW looks at forums like this and takes notice .... erm just dreaming.....
At least on the LCI models, there is a little green light on the switch that lights up when the lights are on in auto mode.

Here's one that really bugs me but no one has mentioned: why are we here in North America told that a car that's a wonderful towing vehicle in the rest of the world shouldn't be used to that here?

maybe it's just me, but on the idrive display, the lower left info always seems to be telling me what I don't care about. With an ipod, it shows "CD1-xxx" some song number, with a CD, I know it knows song names, but instead, it shows track number, with the radio in RDS mode, it shows me info that is usually wrong.

And, with the RDS turned on, the radio menu is useless, but when you turn it off, you lose all RDS info.

Any fixes to this???

My version of iDrive is different. I have the name of my iPod in the lower left (at least while in the aux (iPod) menu.
I normally show the FM stations in preset mode. Some show the numbers, some show the call letters. The display doesn't seem messed up.

BMW does seem to fiddle with things for each iDrive SW version. Things like that change from time to time.
What year, model is your e60? Have you ever had the iDrive SW updated? If you report an actual problem, BMW can update it for you if under warranty.

PS: Welcome aboard.

I did just do the progman update, or whatever, to get the BMW ipod kit to work, that changed a lot of complaints I had when I first got the car, like lack of POI access in the nav...now, I'm really pleased.

I do have some issues that need to be addressed, turning off the airbag in the rear seat next to my 3 year old's car seat, fixing the remote antenna, since my key range is literally inches from the car, and turning off the DRL's, but I'm really impressed.

It has been a few years (like 5) since we last had a BMW in the stable, been driving saab 9-5 aeros for a while, and this car is just so far beyond anything else we've driven.

here are the specs:

2005 545i sport package, nav, bluetooth, now Ipod, 6 speed manual, CPO with extended maint. plan. Titanium grey with black leather sport seats, cold weather package, PDC, fully integrated V1, with remote display and volume control

Had it exactly a month and close to 5000 smiling miles.

(other cars of note, 1967 Saab Sonett II-2-stroke, rebuilt from ground-up 12 years ago, 1969 Porsche 911 S, original 67,000 mile car, 1978 Porsche 911 SC targa 35,000 all original car (likely for sale soon) and 2002 Saab 9-5 aero wagin, manual)
