Timming Chain Noise on my 545i

M20 525i, 325i as well, plus anywhere that 2.7 "e" engine found itself, which would have been the e28 5 series as well. Maybe some others.

Ok guys I bought the mechanic's sthethoscope and followed the noise to a part that I honestly dont know what it is when the car is warm you can barely hear it I am posting a picture of the part that is producing the noise I hope someone can guide me on what it could be before I have to go to the shop.

Thank you so much for the response, good news I guess is that I have no leaks just the noise do you think its something I should be concerned right away or not. I love how the car drives and I will hate to cause any more damages to it for not taking care of the problem soon.

Let me put it this way. This is the little sucker that create the vacuum for your power brake booster. If this unit fails, no vacuum, no power brakes. Remember that whole recall fiasco not too long ago with our V8 E60s? Well, unfortunately, during the recall repair, BMWNA will replace everything but the pump. I'd start putting money away to buy a new pump which I think is about $425 depending on where you get it. It's seemingly a simple task to replace it tho. Good luck!

I will def start saving for it and replace it asap you are right i dont want to loose my brakes at 100mph lol. Thanks again for all your help

you could inspect the pump yourself.

read through this whole thread for a lot more info on that pump.

I will take it apart this weekend any suggestions as where can i find a new one not that expensive?
