Bmw is one car that I have always thought made the coolest sound with their I6's. Now aside from all the benefits of a V8 which do you think makes a nicer sound the I6 or the V8 bmw's? I have heard so many 550/545s and 530s that the loudness is not much different unless you have other mods but stock for stock they are similar loudness with the I6 sounding cooler and more high pitched to me but I have always liked this
V8 for me

hard to beat the sound of a v8, especially threw tunnels, and buildings...such a rookie and ricer move, but man it just sounds so fantastic.

V8 sound is much better! The I6 sounds a little wimpy compared to the V8... That's a fact!

The sound of the I6 is extremely refined. Very "disciplined" at low end and very expressive up the revs. Like a character with two different personalities. The V8 sounds even more refined (like a higher end car), but perhpas a bit understated (it depends what you are looking for really). Quite a few members here have aftermarket exhausts because of that.
