So far I got a PM from a seller on another bimmer forum and his car seemed alrite, but hes the 2nd owner and CPO warranty is expiring on Dec of 2012

"BMW warranty until Dec 2012 or 100,000 miles. Maintenance included until Dec 2010.

Premium package. Sports package.

39682 easy miles. Power everything. 3.0 liter DOHC 24-valve Valvetronic 6-cyl engine with VANOS stepless timing, manual shift mode, dynamic brake control, dynamic stability control, sport suspension, 17? alloy wheels, run-flat tires, tire-pressure monitor, sport bucket seats, sports steering wheel, adaptive headlights, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, auto climate control, integrated garage-door opener, remote keyless entry with alarm system, subwoofer, memory seats / mirrors / steering wheel position, power sunroof, iPod control, 8 air bags. "

Hes asking for 27400. Do you guys think I should gamble 27k on a 2-owner BMW with only 2 years of warranty left? Something tells me I shouldn't, but I don't know the details of 3rd party warranty available AND/OR the BMW extension warranty.

I did without a problem. I bought an '07 530xi with 67.5k miles. First owner was a lessee and 2nd was a pharmaceutical salesman with a big territory. Car was still CPO, and in mint condition with new tires and all the checkups current, so I went with it.

If I'm doing this corrctly, the 4yr/50k full warranty will be over this month (if has CPO warranty until 12/2012, the car must have been first purchased in 12/2006).

I think you could find a better deal at $27.4. Especially if you are considering private party. But, others could disagree with me.

if you're concerned about reliability and/or electrical gremlins don't buy an e60. the valvetrain alone is a ticking timebomb (no pun) on any of the 2004 thru 2010 engines.

1. In general, is E60 a reliable car? Do I have to take it into the shop every month? How bout them electrical problems? Most of the posts that I see on this forum and bimmerfest are about each individual's car problem...

2. I am looking to buy a 2007 530i. Since my budget is only $30k, is it possible to find a 530i with decent mileage (12000miles/year) and sports package?

3. Should I only look for CPO or just any pre-owned is fine? I'm inclined to find CPO because I might get more protection (or peace of mind) since BMW offers the CPO warranty.

4. Is 3rd party warranty good?

5. What does $0 maintenance and the warranty include? Since I don't know E60 very well, are there anything that I would definitely need to be covered by maintenance and warranty as a E60 owner? Heard electrical is the biggest problem with BMW and warranty just doesn't include electrical anymore. Does that mean I'm gambling with 30k + potential repair cost?

6. Can anyone recommend a dealership that gives good price? I'm in socal, but I'm willing to go to norcal to buy the car and drive it down.

Thank you so much and please correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you explain this remark. I did a lot of research on the e60 before I bought one (2007 530xi). The only valvetrain problem I came across was the exhaust lifters ticking on some cars. The most problems are with the 535s and the v8 models but they were'nt valvetrain problems.
I've owned many used BMWs and never had a problem with the engine in any of them.

I've been looking for a 528/535 myself for a family member. But we're looking into an Infiniti now.

Have you seen this one? SoCal - Steve Thomas BMW:

CPO 535i: $28.8k (50k miles) - Blk/blk with sports pkg/prem pkg/navi/paddle shift

thx leese, but 08 with 50k miles seems a little too much for me, plus 535i has the HPFP problem that I would like to stay away from. The hope is getting dimmer...

btw, I'm worried about buying a CPO with only 2 years of CPO warranty. What are my options when CPO warranty expires?
