SMG Locked
#31
My car took a dump again, would not get out of gear when trying to start it. BMW roadside assistance sent over a flatbed, which of course didn't work because the car was stuck in gear, and there's no way I'm going to have someone DRAG my car up the bed of the truck... The towing guy tried to get it started and had no luck. I messed with the thing for hours and couldn't get it started.
This morning, another guy came out with a flatbed and got it started in a few minutes, doing the same things I've been doing all along, namely messing with the gear shifter and rocking the car. (I even considered pouring a can of gas on the car and lighting it, but decided against it. This time.)
At the dealer, the car was working fine. Bizarre... Hopefully it will decide to act up again so they can see what I'm talking about.
First time in, they said it was a software issue, now I'm curious what they will come up with.

Mine is in the shop now - if I turned it off in gear, when I went to restart the car it refused to get out of first gear even though the shifter was in neutral.? Had to rock the car and stand on the brakes to get it started. (Have no idea what rocking the car does but a friend of mine suggested it and it seemed to work.)? Or maybe it was the stream of profanity that got it started again.
Regardless, the BMW service guy said they are going to update the software, a two-day job. Hope it works...
I'm considering making my next BMW a normal manual.? Gonna have to get my left foot back into shape...

It really is sad to hear of these issues regarding SMG and very disconcerting.
I was highly considering to get one in my next BMW.
