Geez, this is terrible news.

The excuse that this is a new technology, driven by software which has the potential to have bugs, is a lame excuse.

This is simply unacceptable for this caliber of car.

As early adopters, we will have some problems whether its an SMG or iPod Shuffle. Mine went in four times and they replaced various things including the transmission. Everytime I drive another car I am still convinced I made the right decision in gettin the SMG.

OK, I'm back in the seat! The dealer had their traveling tech come in to check the problem. After running some more system checks and driving the car the problem was found.

It seems the pumps in the transmission were losing pressure at the low gears. According to everyone concerned the problem has been corrected. And yes, I still love my car!!!

Thanks to everyone.

O.K.....Hydraulic Pumps....Check!

Even with all the trouble I've heard with the SMG I *STILL* ordered my car with it! My mistake was test driving an E60 with SMG and falling in love!

Love can be painful, but worth it! Glad to hear all is well with your SMG E60!

Hasn't been painful for me, CoolTones. Coming up on 18 months of good SMG shifting.

Just got mine back from the dealer last Friday, they updated the software and it has not had any more problems so far. I still leave it in neutral if I'm very far from home, just in case it decides to act up on me again...
(When it was having problems (not going into neutral when trying to start it), I noticed there was not the usual sound of the hydraulic pumps when I opened the car door...)
I still don't understand how that could be a software issue, but what do I know...
