Oh sure, a contact list adds to the waiting time, but it's still only 10% of the waiting time.
Splitting the contacts into multiple contacts is done by the phone, not by the car. This adds no noticable delay.
i dont pair my phone.

my iDrive takes about 1 minute before I can run programs like Nav or switching the radio station...Im shocked to hear that people have these problem with the 08/09 LCIs...I have an 07 and just thought it was a pre-LCI thing...you would think that they would fix it if the other Bimmer models are not having problems w/ iDrive...my bluetooth takes about a minute or two to pair with my phone which is very annoying when you enter your car when your on the phone...The Benz COMMAND system seems to run a lot faster (at least in the S class) compared to the e60 iDrive...has anyone on the forum had a lot of experience with the COMMAND system?

So, basically, this is a all to say that BMW "runs on" Microsoft?
Actually only the 2001 7 series iDrive ran on windows CE the newer iDrive that's in later cars runs on VxWorks http://www.windriver.com/products/vxworks/

There are a few other products that also use VxWorks...although it's probably good that they don't also have iDrive (The Apache Longbow attack helicopter for one)

I can usually get my bluetooth to pair pulling out of the driveway provided I unlock the car from the house and place my laptop in the trunk before getting in. If I just jump in the car and start trying to use the navigation I'm a mile down the road before anything useful works.

i find on startup that if i need the NAV quickly, i shutdown the air system for a minute. otherwise, other function startups are fine.
